Today I went with my friend to a public picnic in the park. I was thinking it would a bunch of families with hotdogs and hamburgers. As it turned out, it was actually a bunch of Asian people with different Asian cuisines. Most of the food that was put on my plate I couldn’t pronounce. There were three different types of rice balls, sweet pork stuff, spicy vegetable stuff, a strange bright yellow vegetable, and hot tamales among other things.
Compared to most “white” people, I’d say I’m pretty good with chopsticks. That is until you expect me to pick up rice or eat soup with them… luckily I wasn’t the only one stabbing the food with one stick.
For the most part, I’d say it was a fun and edifying experience. Next time I’m taking a spoon though.
