{"id":148,"date":"2013-06-19T15:35:06","date_gmt":"2013-06-19T21:35:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.scottsontherocks.com\/recipes\/?p=148"},"modified":"2013-09-19T07:37:00","modified_gmt":"2013-09-19T13:37:00","slug":"homemade-chocolate-syrup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.scottsontherocks.com\/recipes\/condiments\/homemade-chocolate-syrup\/","title":{"rendered":"Homemade Chocolate Syrup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Homemade Hershey\u2019s Chocolate Syrup Recipe<br \/>\nMakes about 16 ounces (2 cups)<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<br \/>\n3\/4 cup cocoa powder<br \/>\n1 1\/4 cups water<br \/>\n1 1\/2 cups sugar<br \/>\n1 1\/2 teaspoons vanilla extract<br \/>\nDash salt<\/p>\n<p>Directions:<br \/>\nUse a big saucepan \u2013 at least 2 quarts. This will expand when boiling, and overflows will make a big mess on your stovetop! (I use this 3-quart saucepan that was part of a bigger set I received as a gift. It\u2019s my favorite!)<br \/>\nCombine the cocoa powder, water, sugar and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Mix with a whisk until smooth.<br \/>\nStir constantly with a whisk or a wooden spoon until it boils.<br \/>\nAllow it to boil for 1-2 minutes.<br \/>\nRemove from heat.<br \/>\nAdd vanilla.<br \/>\nSyrup will be very thin\/watery. Allow to cool completely and it will thicken to about the same consistency as Hershey\u2019s syrup.<br \/>\nStore the syrup in a mason jar or any other container.
