Suicidal Shakes…

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

After shopping today, Heather made the executive decision to stop by a Coldstone (her logic being she had a $20 gift card and she wanted ice cream.) Ashley and Heather both ordered strange, topping and caramel filled ice creams. I went with something a little more simple: a mint chocolate chip shake.

During the drive home, Heather made me hold her ice cream (mainly so that she could drive). I put my half-filled smoothie on top of the handle bar in front of the dash, and it stood there nicely. That is, until she took a sharp turn. I watched helplessly as my gorgeous shake took a suicidal leap off the dash, performed a perfect 360 front flip, slid between Heather’s knees, and rolled to a tragic stop on the floor. Unable to stop it without throwing Heather’s lidless ice cream everywhere, I “squeaked” in distress. Multiple times.

However, I am happy to report that no mint chocolaty goodness was spilled during the performance of this dessert.

Picnic…

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

Today I went with my friend to a public picnic in the park. I was thinking it would a bunch of families with hotdogs and hamburgers. As it turned out, it was actually a bunch of Asian people with different Asian cuisines. Most of the food that was put on my plate I couldn’t pronounce. There were three different types of rice balls, sweet pork stuff, spicy vegetable stuff, a strange bright yellow vegetable, and hot tamales among other things.

Compared to most “white” people, I’d say I’m pretty good with chopsticks. That is until you expect me to pick up rice or eat soup with them… luckily I wasn’t the only one stabbing the food with one stick.

For the most part, I’d say it was a fun and edifying experience. Next time I’m taking a spoon though.

Baseball…

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Every year for my birthday (at least since I was like 4) Dad and I have gone to a Rockies game.

Although I’m pathetically helpless when it comes to playing the sport, I actually really like watching it. I think that anyone can enjoy any sport, they just have to know the rules- but in order to take the time to learn the rules, there has to be some sort of motivation. That’s just my logic anyway.

We’ve gone to tons of games over the years. The first time I got a foul ball, the box seats, Dinger’s signature, the play-off tie breaker game (<– my favorite) we’ve gone to tons. This time around we had front row seats on the third base side. It was a great view, like being involved in the action.

Although the team didn’t have their best night ever, I had a lot of fun.

After the game, we decided to wander the 16th street mall in Denver. After getting lost multiple times, we ended up going into a restaurant called the Hard Rock CafĂ©. Great “thick shakes.”

Your lucky number this week is seven.

So Today…

Last night I was reading a very depressing book. I know this sounds random, but stay with me. I can’t sleep after reading a book that begins and ends in tragedy, especially one with tragedy in the middle, so after reading my very depressing book, I picked up another one. This one was less depressing, just a little more random.

Now this isn’t really relevant except for the fact that because of my depressing books, I didn’t go to sleep until very very late last night (or very very early this morning, if you want to be technical about it). After staying up freaking late, I obviously wanted to SLEEP in. However, this morning I was woken by an earthquake.

It wasn’t a real earthquake- it would’ve been more interesting if it had been a real earthquake- but the Dish guys were adjusting the disk which is on the other side of my wall. The entire bed was shaking and the wall was rumbling, so before 8 this morning, I was under the impression that there was an earthquake.

BUT WAIT! It gets better! Already tired from lack of sleep, I went to piano today. And, what do you know? Piano was canceled. The only thing is, Heather sped away right after dropping me off. Thus, my piano teacher’s husband decided to teach me about waltzes.

Fun Waltz Facts:

  • They were most common in the 18th century
  • They were made popular by Strauss, a classic composer
  • They are in 3/4 time
  • The first beat of a measure is the most prominent
  • They are similar to rag-time, except for the timing
  • “Piano Man” by Billy Joel is an example of a modern waltz (the only example in “eons” according to my surrogate instructor)

Yes, I learned all of this in the fifteen minutes it took for Heather to turn around and get back to pick me up…

I suppose it could’ve been worse- I could’ve had to walk home…
