Princesses, Vampires, Rainbows, Harry Potter, Zombies, Pumpkins, and Ninjas…

Monday, October 31st, 2011

You probably guessed it already, but I’m talking about Halloween of course!

This year my friend and I were rainbows. We kinda-sorta-not-really pulled this off by wearing Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Violet (no Indigo, sorry…). Unfortunately our costumes were short-sleeved and it was cold. We didn’t stay out very long.

We actually celebrate Halloween on the weekend because our neighbourhood is full of rednecks who like to drink. An explanation  might be required. First and foremost I suggest my mom’s blog as reference. http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2011/10/29/hoa-hayride/ Other than that all I’m going to say is Trick or Drinks.

Anyway, I actually just wanted to blog about something that I’ve noticed recently. Mind you, this is a broad observation and doesn’t ring true for everyone (or anyone, really) But here’s what I’ve noticed about halloween:

— As a baby you dress up as food and animals. M&M’s and cows; pumpkins, elephants, pizza, bees, Elmo, maybe a sports player or a flower or something.

— Then in the toddler to young child years it’s all about the heroes. Princesses, Harry Potter, princesses, Superman, Batman, princesses, etc.

— After around 10 it’s onto the halloween-y type things. Vampires, werewolves, evil fairies, monsters, anything with a mask or face paint. Wings, horns, ears,    and tails are a bonus. Must bee creepy or at least funny. Even better if you are with a matching partner or group.

— Then there’s the brief “I’m too old for trick-or-treating” stage. It doesn’t last long. Who wants to turn down free candy?

— During the high school years it’s full circle. Back to the food and animals. Maybe a sports player or a flower or something.

–After that I’ve noticed that it’s less about the costume and more about the party, especially since no one passes out candy to anyone who looks over 21.

Anyway, that’s just my personal assumption. I could be totally off on that.

Nothing on Earth so beautiful as the final haul on Halloween night.

Michigan- Year 4…

Monday, October 24th, 2011

So this year I went with my best friend’s family for fall break (again).

It was pretty fun, we went into the cute little town and looked at lighthouses, picked apples, saw awesome houses, and a lot of other stuff. Unfortunately it was cold and rainy pretty much the whole week. Very little beach glass (weathered down glass from broken bottles; looks like colorful rocks) was found.

I may try to post some pictures, but- as I mentioned before- it’s a pain to do and I’m not very good at it. If you really really want to see some photos, check out my facebook page (friend me if you aren’t already my friend. If you read my blog then you really should be my friend…) There’s over 100 photos on there so check it out.

Keep checking back to see if I post any pics, I’m going to try and get some cooler ones from my friend (her dad has some awesome lighthouse photos from the times that her parents went out to the piers without us- it was too cold!)

My Door…

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

So for years now I’ve decorated my door with lots of strange, pop-up, decorative signs that basically say “Courtney” a bunch of times… vain much?

Anyway, I just figured out how to post pictures. I know, I’ve been doing this for over year now and everyone else has been posting pictures for… how long?

Oh well… My point was, this is going to be my first ever “picture post”!!! YAY!

Let’s see how this goes…

My Door, in all of its glory

My Door, in all of its glory.

Just try to figure this one out.

My Fav

Made by Heather

Made by a girl a babysit

Pretty awesome, if I do say so myself 😉

Another one made by a girl I babysit

A little boring…

A little fun 😉

Probably the oldest one on the door.

This one’s kind of only cool ’cause of the paper…

Who doesn’t love random balloons?

Improper use of Chinese on this one (not that anyone can tell…)

Made by my bestie 😉

My name in Chinese

Okay, this post has taught me 2 things:

1) Posting pictures is a pain in the butt. Ohmygosh, I now understand why I’ve never tried it before. IF I decide to post anymore pics, it probably won’t be more than a couple.

and

2) Actually, keeping up with these door signs is a little hard. They keep falling apart or parts of them fall off or they go missing or (occasionally) I’ll have something stuck to my door that I didn’t put there. These signs are seriously held together with about 200 tons of tape. So I’ve been thinking that I’m probably done with the door signs. I’m not taking them down- mainly because, like I said, 200 tons of tape are firmly holding (most) of them in place- but I’m probably not going to put anymore up or fix them if they fall apart. But who knows, if I get bored, I just might…

The Future…

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

So recently when I’ve been blogging I think to myself  “am I going to regret posting this in 10 years?”

I mean, I put a lot of weird or random thoughts on this thing, and I’m sure that when I’m reading this in the future it’s going to be thoroughly embarrassing and I’ll hate my high school self for saying stupid things.

But hey, why the heck not, right?

So I’m going to continue to post weird, random, and embarrassing things, solely for the amusement of me in a 10 years…

…so this post had no point whatsoever…

Snow…

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

The first snow of the year today!!! Yayyyy!!!

Hopefully it won’t be like last year, when it snowed once in October then didn’t snow again until January…

It wasn’t enough snow just yet, but I do have a snow related goal for this year:
make an upside down snowman.

I’ll let you know how that goes…

When I no longer thrill to the first snow of the season, I’ll know I’m growing old.

In Grand Junction…

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

So I was thinking about recent events that I could post about and nothing really came to mind, so I decided to post about our weekend.

I have to admit, I wasn’t going to blog about our weekend in Grand Junction (I figured FB and Mom’s Blog would pretty much have it covered) but then again, why not? I only have a handful of readers anyway and I bet the highlight of your week is my blog post (OK, maybe not… but don’t go crushing all my wonderful unicorn-filled fantasies now!).

So here it goes, the crazy weekend in a nutshell:

On Friday Mom pulled me out of school during 2nd period (YES!) In order to finish packing and help with any of the miscellaneous chores left before we had to leave.

We pulled out of the driveway sometime after noon (I’m not totally sure when- 2, 3ish maybe?) And we made it to GJ by 9ish… I think. We set up the camper at a KOA near town (and by “we” I mean Dad and William. I helped cook, excuse me, microwave dinner.)

Heather was surprised to see all of us, ’cause she was under the impression that it was just Mom and Dad going up. Surprise! Then we went to sleep.  And that was Friday.

Saturday was the busiest day:

We visited Heather’s dorm (which was a complete and utter mess) and met her room mate. We did some of her laundry and ate lunch there.

Then we decided to go out to eat at the Mexican restaurant they all like (which I can’t remember the name of. El something-or-another.) We also decided to invite Tara- Dad’s 3rd cousin twice removed by divorce and marriage and inbred and crossbred and who knows what else (she may actually be directly related to us…) She’s a junior at CMU, and it was my first time meeting her. We’re pretty sure she’s terrified of us now…

After dinner we headed back to the campground and roasted some marshmallows and made some s’mores and ate a bunch of sugar. Somewhere in there someone decided that I would sleep with Heather in her dorm that night. I’m not sure who.

So enter the college life. While I was cleaning her room, 3 of her friends crashed the party. Along with her roommate and someone she was Skyping with. It was a pretty crowded room. Around 11ish they decided they wanted to go to Wal-Mart. So we went to Wal-Mart. An bought random sugary crap.

After returning to the dorm sometime after midnight, they announced that we would be playing a game called Munchkin. It was pretty fun, extremely random and a little hard to follow.

We ended up going to bed at some Godforsaken time in the morning. We woke up at 9.

On Sunday we ate lunch in the Cafeteria and we were packed and ready to go around noon. The trip back was full of traffic but pretty uneventful- as far as I can recall, I slept through most of it- and so here we are.

That was our weekend, how was yours?

Literary Magazine…

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

So, as you are probably not privy to, I am in the Literary Magazine staff at school. Our magazine is called Margins (as in writing or doodling in the margins of your paper, get it?)

It’s on FB under “Margins Literary Magazine” and there’s a link on Rock Canyon website.

It’s pretty cool and I love it. We sell copies sometime in May, you should check it out! Or don’t, in which case you should just ignore this post…
