Family Reunions…

Sunday, July 10th, 2011

When we went to Texas, we had several family gatherings, and if I learned anything about our family from them it was that in order to be related to us, you must like dogs, country music, and meat.

I had fun while in Texas and met a lot of my facebook friends that are also related to me that I hadn’t known before.

Hopefully we’ll go back soon for repeat visits!

Interesting Colorado Laws…

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Every state has weird and pointless laws that everybody breaks, mainly because they don’t know about them but also because they are just so dumb that following them would be ridiculous.

Some of Colorado’s include:

  • It’s illegal to crash into a lift tower or a sign while skiing
  • Cats must be fitted with a tail light if they sneak out of the house
  • You may not abuse rats in Denver
  • Driving black cars on Sunday is illegal
  • It’s illegal to throw snowballs

That’s right, these are laws. Other states have some stupid laws too. In North Carolina you must pay property tax for your dog. In Delaware it’s illegal to pass out on the boardwalk. Parents in Alabama are prosecuted for missing parent-teacher conferences.

I suggest google-ing the weird laws of your state and then follow them to the tee. Or, if you are anything like me, go and break all of them and see if you get caught.

Colorado National Monument…

Monday, June 27th, 2011

We went up to Grand Junction this past weekend, Ashley had a basketball camp and Heather’s college (Colorado Mesa University) is also up there. The scenery is beautiful and breathtaking.

While we were up there we visited the Colorado National Monument and took about four-hundred pictures (not an exaggeration there) because it was so amazing. Also right around that area are the Book Cliffs and the Grand Mesa, which is the largest mesa in the world.

I had a lot of fun while up there, though the mosquitoes were killer and car kept vapor-locking on the way back so we didn’t get home until midnight… Anyway, it’s a gorgeous place and if you’ve never been, you should definitely check it out!

P.S- I’m going to try and post some pictures, but I’ve never actually done that before… keep your eyes peeled!

Room Guards…

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

I really need to stop leaving my room unattended for any extended amount of time. Previously they’ve used it as a storage room. They’ve also killed my fish. This time they hijacked my bedside table.

Yup, I’m hiring room-guards.

My one-eyed, one-horned, flying, purple people eater…

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

So last night I was laying in my bed and it was really late (I’m not sure how late though). My music had turned off by then so I was stuck listening to the sounds of my room. Soon I started hearing something strange…

Whenever paper on my desk shifted, it sounded like someone taking a huge bite out of an apple
Whenever my fan clicked it sounded like someone impatiently tapping on glass
Whenever the wind blew through my window it sounded like a wing on a hard downbeat
Whenever a car drove by on the highway it sounded like a growl or (in the case of a semi) a roar
Whenever my curtains blew in the breeze it sounded like someone breathing and it felt like they were right at my neck…

So, as you can imagine, my dreams consisted of flying purple dragons that breathed fire and had to get the gold away from the evil leprechauns that used coins like ninja throwing-stars. Then the magical singing unicorns appeared. My alarm (which was music) was going off…

I can safely say that this was one of the strangest dreams I’ve ever had, complete with sound effects.

The way the world goes round…

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

The other day Heather and I were at the mall (looking for a swimsuit) when a guy walked up to us. At first we didn’t really notice him, he stood off to one side and we were totally lost at that point. Then he turned to us and asked “who is Abby?”

At this point I was completely confused, then it occurred to me that I was wearing my ABC shirt. As you may have read in previous posts, ABC was Abby Beats Cancer. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, skip this post and go back a few…

Anyway, I finally caught up to the situation and replied, “she was  a girl in my school who had cancer, but unfortunately died from it. We wear these shirts to remember her.”

He nodded and answered, “I used to have leukemia.” This obviously came as a shock. This guy was probably middle-aged, slightly balding, and wearing a fancy black suit (why he was wondering around JCPenny’s is beyond me, but that’s not relevant). There isn’t much you can say to a statement like that, so Heather and I didn’t say much. “My sister was an exact marrow match and flew down here. Now all of my marrow is hers. I did beat it. Except now my wife’s under the impression that I should want to go shopping more often.”

It was an amazing and touching moment. We went our separate ways after that, but he has made a fingerprint in my memory, and now I think about how this happened because of Abby and her shirts. 🙂

Summer Vacation (so far)…

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

So I’ve been thinking about what to write recently, but I couldn’t decide because so much has happened since school let out, so I’m going to cram it all into this one post… enjoy 😉

The Tuesday that school was released and we all escaped, I went home with a friend and spent the night at her place. While I was there, we walked up to the park and took some pictures, which was amazingly fun and awesome, by the way.

Then that Friday, I picked up one of my friends at her bus stop and we bought lunch at Safeway, ate at her house, then walked back to mine to have a Star Wars marathon (which we never actually finished). Later, I took five of my friends and we crashed Heather’s graduation party at Brunswick Zone. We played laser tag (and totally got our butts kicked by the older kids who out numbered us… I don’t think any of us had played in the past three years, so you know what? We don’t care! It was fun!) Then we did some cosmic bowling! All of us, of course, had the bumpers on. The first game we all took very seriously and a couple of us even scored over 100! The second game… We didn’t take turns, just went whenever (occasionally we even went 2 at a time 😉 ) and we tried any number of tricks. Like between the knees, backwards, spinning, left handed, eyes shut, and while hopping on one foot. Then, after getting home around 3 am, we all crashed in the camper. A day well spent, if I do say so myself.

After everyone had gone home on Saturday (the first leaving around 9am the last not going until 2pm) I watched movies and stuff, falling asleep early. On Sunday, however, my friend invited me to go to Boulder for a carnival-type-thing. (Imagine Xmas in the square or the Peanut Festival, it’s a lot like that). We rode some rides, ate some bad food, tried some sample stuff, and looked at the cool trinkets being sold. Over all a fun day.

That Tuesday I went back and slept at my friends house, and we played tennis for several hours on both Tuesday and Wednesday then spent the rest of the time watching classic Disney movies and making Chinese dumplings.

Then, Thursday (today, FYI), we (“we” being me, my friend, William, and Mom) went to the pool and spent a couple of fun-filled hours there. Around 4:30 I had my first piano lesson in months, which was great, and then I came back home and posted this on my blog, which you are reading right now 😉

That was my first two weeks of summer vacation! I start babysitting on Monday! Hopefully we’ll get to go to Elitch’s before everyone leaves town! So far it’s been uber fun, and I’ll keep posting about how great this summer’s going to be! After all, it’s my one and only summer as a Sophomore and a half!

My Bestest Friend Ever…

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

So today my best friend walked up to me and handed me one of those name things (you know, where you write your name on a paper then decorate it all awesome). It had a cute little note on the back. She did it because she was bored.

I must say that this fun little almost-nothing made my day. I’m so lucky to have such a random and special best friend.

I’m writing hers now 😀
