Driving…

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

There is no preparations for driving. No kid can just hop behind the wheel and be all like “I’m an awesome driver! I can be a stunt double in batman!” or something.

Nope, there isn’t much you can do to prepare a 15-year-old to get behind the wheel (trust me, they tried everything), but eventually they catch on.

Now, speaking from the 15-year-old’s point of view, nobody really prepares you for night driving either. It’s a whole new ball game. Brights, lights, midnight joggers. It’s all different. And I haven’t even started on how horrible construction is for the nerves.

Anyway, to all you new drivers and parent’s with new drivers who may or may not be reading this blog– good luck…

Skinned Knees…

Monday, August 29th, 2011

As it turned out, I was babysitting this afternoon. Not that big a deal, except that everyone left with out telling me. Anyway, William walked in and asked if I would go play with him outside.

Uh, no? I’m not that loving of a sister.

Then he modified his question and asked if I would stay out there while he played outside.

That I can do.

So I collected my Chinese homework and followed him into the driveway. He pulled out his bike and helmet and started up and down the street.

I got through translating half of the sentence He always reads before going to bed when I heard a bloodcurdling scream.

William had taken a fall and ripped up his leg.

Now, William is almost as big as I am, so how the heck was I supposed to take him up the hill? Luckily the neighbor heard the screaming and came to rescue us.

Yup, that’s how I wanted to spend my afternoon- disinfecting skinned knees.

Needle…

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

So I stepped on a needle (on Sunday) and it hit a nerve or something, so I’ve been limping around school these past few days.

News To Me…

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Sometime last week I was casually scanning through my mom’s blog, seeing if she’d posted anything weird about me, and I saw some post titled “Latest bloodwork.” I had no idea what that meant so I clicked on it and read it, only to find out that my mother’s trip to the doctor hadn’t gone so well and they would be scanning her thyroid to see if the cancer was back, or whatever.

Now the news itself came as a shock, but the fact that I was hearing about this for the first time through her blog was just pathetic. I mean really? We live in the same house and I’m finding out about blood problems days after the fact via blogging? Seriously?

I still haven’t really heard much about the doctor’s appt. or the thyroid or the ultrasound. Guess I’ll just have to wait until the next post about it is up.

Favorites…

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

So the other day Ashley had to stay after school for some Biology assignment. While she was in his class, I was with a friend. We were just chatting in the hallway. When I mentioned the teacher Ashley was with (we’ll call him Mr. B) my friend wanted to go visit him. She said that he was one of her favorite teachers last year.

And so we went to Mr. B’s class room, where Ashley was vigorously scribbling down the answers to some assignment or another. Mr. B walked in, seeing my friend and me, and started talking to her. She was telling him about her science class this year and how boring it was.

Somewhere in the middle of the conversation I cut in. “Mr. B, don’t you remember me?”

He stared blankly at my face, clearly not recognizing it.

“I was one of your favorite students.”

At that point he starts to gape. He would remember if I just gave him one more second. He had to know my face after all.

I decided to cut him a break pretty early on. “Just kidding. I’ve never had you before.”

Needless to say he was both embarrassed and laughing. Guess he’ll remember Ashley’s sister now.

Heather…

Monday, August 15th, 2011

So Heather left home Saturday to go to college. The house feels empty already.

We’re -1.

Although… with all the skype-ing that’s going one recently it sure doesn’t feel like it…
