Yes, I tried out the snowshoes

I had the opportunity this morning to try out snowshoeing for the first time. Thanks to my friend Katie for letting me borrow a set of snowshoes! Amy and I drove from Eagle to Mintern and started up a fairly easy trail. Almost immediately the altitude hit me and I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to continue (it’s not like I’m in the greatest shape…) But after about a minute or so, I was fine and we continued. It wasn’t crisp blue skies but the weather was great and warm enough that after several minutes I had to take off my warm & toasty gloves. Neither of us remembered to grab a camera but hopefully the pictures from the cell phone will be adequate! (you know… to prove I actually went out there 😉 ) I’ll post the pictures once we figure out how to get them off of Amy’s phone 😉 Somewhere back in there, I saw a deer and young buck but Amy wasn’t close enough to see from her vantage and by the time she got back to me (cough, cough, I was a “little” farther back than she was)… they were walking down into a gully and we waited a bit but never saw them come out. Having never snowshoed, I imagined something like strenuous hiking… but it wasn’t difficult! You should try it! (NOTE: of course I suspect we were on an EASY trail and Amy was keeping it simple for me 😉 ). So now that I’ve been exposed, I intend to figure out how to keep it up…. (hopefully… to be continued)
