The Baby Aisle

It’s been a while since I’ve done any shopping on the baby aisle at the grocery store 😉 William’s school is collecting diapers for Warren Village so we took a trip to the store this morning. William was a little mesmerized by the fact that there were so many TYPES of diapers but I think he understood the need for different sizes 😉

Warren Village helps single-parent families get on their feet. Our good friend Tammy Abramovitz has been an advocate for Warren Village for many years. If you would like to know more about this wonderful organization: http://www.warrenvillage.org

[pics incl]  Courtney’s match today was at a country club with a spectacular view… trust me, the camera does not do the scene justice!

Bump in the night

Sometimes when things go bump in the night, it’s just your teenage girls scrambling to climb into your bed because there is a terribly loud hail and thunderstorm.  For the record, I was about 0.275 seconds from going down to the basement myself! 😉

Bluebird of Happiness

[pics incl] Actually, I had several all at once! This is the only one that would even let me get close enough to my door to zoom in so that I could get the picture. They were fluttering about and singing, you’d almost think that spring had arrived 😉 I also took a picture of the sunset later but the camera didn’t do the scene justice. Sunsets over the Rockies are gorgeous!  [NOTE:  the “bluebird of happiness” quote is from the movie K-Pax with Kevin Spacey]

Nerf Wars

[pics incl]  William’s friend Gavin came over and we had a Nerf War.  There is only one rule with Nerf Wars here:  “You cannot shoot unarmed ‘civilians,’ however, if you are holding/hoarding nerf bullets… YOU are armed.”  🙂  It’s a 3-story house 😉  SOOO, if you plan on visiting, it might be prudent to “arm yourself”… just in case! 😉  Gavin made us a lovely Easter egg decoration!

Kindergarten

Ya know… my youngest child is 11 so I was pretty sure we were done with kindergarten but Courtney came running in and said, “I’ve finally made it to kindergarten!!!”  Considering that she is almost 17 this comment required an explanation.  She has been taking Chinese long enough now that her teacher thought they were ready to order their new elementary school books, starting with kindergarten 😉  We are soooo proud!

Cows

I noticed last week that the rolling landscape near the high school was suddenly dotted with black baby cows.  I even noticed that the cows would take turns “baby-sitting” with 3-4 of them resting in a distinctly defined area with all the babies within the boundaries.  I was able to count 12 babies, in one group, one day 😉  All the other cows were off grazing, with other groups of babies off in the distance.

Today I was bringing Courtney her lunch and a cow appeared to be on the outside of a gate but it was hard to tell from where I was driving on the road. I wasn’t sure of the protocol for loose cows… do you call 911?  [I have since looked up the NON-emergency number and made sure it’s in my contacts 😉 ]  I decided to wait to call (or decide what to do) until I was headed back the other way in just a couple of minutes.

As I made the return trip, the cow had meandered to the edge of the road.  By this time, a sheriff deputy was in front of me and made a U-turn to come back to the cow.  I slowed to a crawl so I wouldn’t startle the cow.  Another deputy showed up and it was apparent that they found their new job description amusing.

They must have been successful because when I returned later to pick up kids, the cow was gone.

Autism Awareness

Today is Autism Awareness Day and the CDC released an alarming report last week that 1 in 88 children is diagnosed with Autism (1 in 54 for boys).  We have been fortunate to have 4 healthy children, while many of our friends and neighbors have children with Autism to varying degrees, all of them are boys.  I have personally seen these boys grow and learn and adapt!
