Holding hands

I was at the school today and made a realization about holding hands.  If you are kindergarten through second grade, you will hold hands with everyone, to do everything.  An entire group of kids, boys and/or girls, will be walking around holding hands while looking for a ball at recess, walking between classes, washing up for lunch… ANYTHING.  It’s the cutest sight 😉  However, there is a significant transition between second and third grade that makes holding hands with anyone, strictly taboo!  When does holding hands kick back in again? is that in middle school? 😉

Fun Dip

You know the unspoken rule about when little kids make you breakfast, you have to eat it, no matter what?!  Same rule applies for Valentine’s Day candy 😉  I may regret having a package of fun dip and I know I have sugar sprinkles all down my clothes… but I assure you, I enjoyed every bit 😉

Santa gifts

We were having a discussion over all the technology in this house (precipitated by the new Valentine’s iPhones).  Our kids are little geeks, all of them, yes… even Courtney!  It’s our own fault really, we have taught them to crave electronics 😉  So, Ashley was asking if/when she could get an iPhone and Jeff told her she’d have to wait because she just got a new Kindle for Christmas.  William chimed right in and pointed out that the Kindle was FREE… because Santa brought that!  He is absolutely right…! but she’s still not getting an iPhone anytime soon 😉

Valentine’s Technology Tradition

Ever since we were first married, Jeff and I have often given each other “electronics” for Valentine’s Day 😉  It’s true!  About 17 years ago, I got him a 20MB (that’s MB, not GB) hard drive for something like $100 and thought that was an awesome deal! 😉 I remember him telling me one year that he had told a co-worker he needed to go to Best Buy (or other electronic store) to get me a Valentine’s gift… and his co-worker looked at him like he was crazy 😉  I definitely prefer electronics over flowers!  The tradition is intact! 😉  As many of you know, my cell phone has been dying a slow, painful death for several months now… and Jeff’s died yesterday.  Sooooo, we both have new phones now 🙂 Considering that everyone else in this house has iPod/iPhones, that’s what I went ahead and got too, just so we could all share accessories, etc.  Please be patient with me as I was entrenched in my other phone and it’ll take me a bit to get over the learning curve (ha!).   WISH ME LUCK!

Early morning texts

Dear East coast friends and family… PLEASE do NOT text us early in the morning.  (and maybe a few Central Timezone folks)…  I’ve made joking comments about it previously, but I really need to be blunt now.  When you text us before 7:00am your time (ET)… you are waking us up… as it is not yet 5:00am here in Colorado (MT).  I’m not trying to be rude but when you do group texts that include me and my kids on school days before they get up, I need to ask you to wait until later.  I know it’s kinda habit to just send a mass text, especially on special events and holidays.  😉  We do appreciate your texts and love to hear from you,  HONEST!,  but please be mindful of the time before including us in your group texts.  AND… we’ll do the same thing on the flipside at night and not text your after you have gone to bed.  THANKS!!!

Change your wipers

PepBoys is my hero (and I suspect Jeff’s too 😉 ).

Have you ever noticed that when windshield wipers stop working, they stop working completely, not just a little bit, almost making you wish you didn’t have wipers?  Although the roads are completely clear from the last snowstorm, the surrounding snow is melting off causing the roads to be ever so slightly wet enough to cause annoying overspray.  It’s a terrible thing when your windshield wipers make it worse!  So a trip for new windshield wipers was paramount.  I had done some research beforehand and learned that Michelin wipers were the best according to Consumer Reports but that basically all wipers needed replacing in about 6 months.  We had some errands to run and a PepBoys was along our way and wouldn’t ya know, Michelin wipers were on sale 😉 AND….. PepBoys offers FREE windshield wiper installation.  OK… it took the employee <3 minutes to swap out our wipers (and that includes stopping to make sure he had the right lengths on each side).  I have to say, that was well worth it!  Now there is no excuse for having worn wipers!  SOOOO, change your wipers!

Pristine Snow

[pics incl] It’s been over a week since we had just under 3 feet of snow, however, the snow in our backyard has been left untouched by the wildlife.  We have a local herd of deer, several families of rabbits, squirrels, raccoons and other assorted rodentia… and a bobcat/lynx hanging around.  I’ve seen all of these animals walk AROUND our yard (or rather, I’ve seen or heard about evidence of their tracks) but none of them have ventured to walk across?!?!

[NOTE: as of 02/15/12, the snow is still untouched!]

Photo cards

I realized that several of our Christmas cards were returned undeliverable.  I have some photo cards left over that I’d be happy to share with any of ya’ll… let me know if you didn’t get one and I’ll send one out to you!

Trash hand

Have you ever thought about with which hand you throw away trash?  You should.  Advice:  NEVER… EVER, throw away trash in a public trash can with the same hand that you are holding your car keys! [NO, I didn’t do this but I was standing next to someone else when they did!]  I’m thinking this same advice will apply to such things as those blue post office boxes 😉

Wrong car

Yes, there was a car just like ours but I didn’t fall for it this time (I learned my lesson last time: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2011/07/11/why-does-the-car-smell/ )  I’m really kicking myself for not letting Courtney go and get in the wrong car 😉

Never too old to sled

I was driving by our local “community sledding hill” and I saw a group of people out sledding.  Upon further inspection, I realized it was a group of ELDERLY women with great big giant grins.  I wish I’d had my camera, it was a wonderfully sweet sight to see!

Die like a redneck

This is just wrong on so many levels that I had to share it with you! 😉  Jeff and Courtney were watching TV and commenting about how people dress for funerals, and act at funerals.  The conversation was all over the place and next thing I knew, they were discussing how to have a funeral “redneck style”… they even said they should build a website for redneckfunerals.com so that they could become consultants on helping you prepare for your special event with things like trashcan lids and trampolines instead of headstones!…. yes, the rest of us have to live here 😉

Washing hands

You know that saying that goes something like “one hand washes the other…”… I have a new twist…

I was cleaning up a particularly disgusting cat mess (I’ll spare you the details) and decided to use a plastic grocery bag over my hand to get the job done.  I only used one hand and promptly disposed of the mess and proceeded to go wash my hands.  Using my OTHER hand, I turned on the water and got the soap… next thing I realize is how unfair it is to my clean hand with the soap… to make it try to wash the hand that had cleaned the mess.  Now keep in mind, my other hand was actually protected by the plastic but I can certainly imagine instances in the past where one hand has been filthy and not the other [the goose poop in my hair springs to mind!!!:  http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2011/03/03/i-had-a-bad-hair-day/]  Think if this had been someone else’s hand… would I have volunteered to wash it so eagerly (or even not so eagerly)?

Something to think about when one hand won’t wash the other…. Things that make you go HMMMMM…..
