Things We Learned on Our Trip

1) TX does not believe in speed limit signs. Unless it’s 80mph, then those are posted often.

2) our car doesn’t “speak” English

3) Mother Nature is very temperamental and will respond with uncanny and precise timing and accuracy

4) you can hear, from the inside, a rattlesnake strike your car, on the outside

5) black twizzlers are NOT black licorice

6) Some small towns have a 6:30pm factory shift change alarm; the fact that it coincides with a possible tornado storm is irrelevant.

7) 4th meal is a REAL thing. You go out to eat; it sucks; so you go out to another restaurant directly.

8) Jupiter and Venus could look a lot closer together if you take your glasses off and squint, or change positions… like to a different country 😉

Visiting the Very Large Array (VLA)

[pics incl] Aunt Norma Jo (also known as Grandma or Great-Grandma) took us out to see the VLA. Emily and Ally (4) came with us. Ally decided before we actually drove completely out there, that the antenna were probably larger than a giraffe. She was right. After we returned, we taught Ally to play Go Fish and then relaxed at the park with Great-Grandpa (Uncle Billy).

Visiting Lorang’s in Socorro

[pics incl] We arrived in Socorro, NM to visit Jeff’s Uncle Billy & Aunt Norma Jo Lorang. Emily had arrived from Portland a couple of hours before us to visit with Ally too. Debi and Mitch joined us for dinner, too. Later, William and I went to stay at Debi’s and Mitch’s and watch Jupiter and Venus align (although we never saw them conjoin as promised) This millipede thing distracted us for a moment.

Sledding at White Sands

[pics incl] Jeff was confused when William texted him and said we need to recover from sledding. When, we mentioned that we were planning to stop by White Sands, NM Christy had the awesome idea to take a sled! Nope, no pictures of me sledding, BUT, sledding was done by me 😉 After we left there, we realized we were passing the Valley of the Fires so of course we stopped here too!

No Mouse in the House

[pics incl] “Aunt Mousie” is not here but we are staying at her house in Artesia, NM. [MISS YOU! I NEED A POEM… see earlier posts 😉 ] Christy and Dwight came over to visit. For lunch the next day, Cyndi and Ryan stopped by briefly. That night we took Ryan to the local Italian restaurant (I DO NOT recommend that!) and after Ryan dropped us off back at the house, Chrsty showed up and we went to IHOP 😉

Visiting Daryl and Melissa Johnson Family

[pics incl] After leaving San Antonio, we arrived in Odessa, TX to visit my mom’s cousin Daryl & Melissa Johnson and family. There was promptly a nerf war! After hanging out with this dog (well, and the kids, one which has rainbow hair) I’m contemplating shaving a cat and using washable markers. Their daughter, Zoe, had a fundraiser where they painted toilets pink and planted flowers in them.

Dinner with Some of the Conwell’s

Showering with Thistle

[pics incl] Not the noxious weed, rather the prickly hedgehog. When I arrived at Geneva’s there were NO WINDOWS on their house; the crew was working diligently to replace all of them.  Rick and I chatted a bit before he commented something along the lines of “with you comes rain and they aren’t finished yet, so you will need to leave.” 🙂  I went to take a shower and found a hedgehog, named Thistle (carefully placed out of the paths of window works).

AND THEN… we laundered money… literally laundered. When William went to Fiesta Texas Six Flags, his money got wet, so we threw it in the dryer. 😉

Guadalupe River in New Bransfels

[pics incl] There was much debate over what time I should leave Tomball to arrive at Fiesta Texas San Antonio by 10-10:30 am. When leaving at 5:30am, it takes approximately 3+ hours. So, I just took William to the Gillman’s campsite in New Bransfels instead. Much of their campground was literally UNDER water (not their sites) and the river was so swollen, “no inflatables” were allowed.

The Gillman’s happened to be visiting Six Flags Fiesta TX and offered to let William join them.  The will drop him off at my cousin Geneva’s when they head back to the campground.

At the O’Rourke’s

[pics incl] Since we rescheduled from last week, the only time to “visit” was literally in the middle of the night. So we left Andrea’s and arrived at Karen’s & Duane’s around 10pm. After visiting a bit and a quick “nap,” William & I were on the road by 5:30am. Duane said he got to sleep in because he usually gets up at 3:30am. It was great to see them!

William and I had to go to THE REAL SHIPLEY’S in League City. While we were there we bumped into the mailman, whom I knew?!?! I used to babysit his kids when I was in highschool. How cool is that?! Wish I had remembered to have William take a photo.

Visiting with The Davis Clan 06/24/15

[pics incl]  Tonight we visited with my Aunt Virginia and Uncle David and 3/4 of my Davis cousins and their kids!  Paul & Melissa and Jenna, Stephen & Moey and Callie & Rian, Amy & Jon and Cameron, and the Klatt kids, Joshua and Riley that we had met in Lubbock at Tammy’s (Jason was not here).  I never got my “group photo” I was talking about but here are some we did get.

Tentative Plans

I am planning to leave League City/Alvin area around 6am (or sooner) on Fri 06/25/15, with the goal of dropping off William at Fiesta TX in San Antonio to join John and Patti and kids for the day.  My cousin Geneva lives in SA and a couple of friends want to visit.  I AM NOT GOING TO FIESTA TX. 😉

I plan to leave sometime Saturday and go to Daryl & Melissa Johnson’s place in Odessa, TX (Daryl is my mom’s cousin).

From there to Artesia, NM to collect Jeff’s cousin Christi and head to Socorro, NM to visit their Uncle Billy and Aunt Norma Jo and several cousins.

Yes, Andrew (one of Christi’s sons), we will feed you in Santa Fe 😉 pick a place!

before heading to Colorado Springs to drop Christi off with her daughter Shelbi.
