Internetal

Don’t you love it when kids make up words that definitely have real meaning?  William said he had to complete a research project using an internetal method.  I asked:  he had to use the internet to find resources.   🙂

Goodnight Johnboy

I didn’t watch that show, but I’m old enough to know about it ;-). We don’t lay in bed saying goodnight… Instead we plot ways to torture…

The condo we are in has half walls, a loft and an etched glass inlay as the wall over the stairs… yes, there is NO privacy!

After watching a somewhat scary movie (and I had just spent a couple hours reading The Hunger Games) we had all gone to bed, but Jeff and I had the tv on in our room (the one adjoining the etched glass wall over the stairs). The flickering light from the tv was… annoying the girls up in the loft and after a couple angry texts and determined glares, we relented and turned off the tv.

BUT THEN, I said it’d have been fun to have a flashlight (you know… shadow puppets, etched glass…). Jeff said ” Ah, but we DO!” There’s an app for that. And thus, a very bright LED light aimed at the glass brought out the best in the girls. They reciprocated with their own… set to strobe light and since our room has a ceiling fan, the effect was quite nauseating! Poor William was unarmed in the sunken living room on the couch, underneath it all.

After wearing out the nuance of flashlight wars, we all silently declared a truce. That is, until Jeff leaned over and whispered, “Do you think I should go up and scare them?” “Yup, and good luck with that!”

Our room is framed with pocket doors (the kind that slide into the walls). On one side leading to the hot tub room, the doors are glass, the other set of doors is at the base of the stairs leading to the loft. Somehow he managed to slide the doors apart enough to slip through undetected by William. I can hear him, the stairs are creaking, ankles cracking and I’m trying not to laugh (apparently he was too)! After 10 solid minutes he is still undetected from above or below.

He roars! Ashley and William both scream, Courtney has turned on a light and is hollering at everyone… it’s 1:30am! We all enjoyed a good laugh.

While lying in bed, realizing the vulnerability of our lockless pocket doors, we decide that now might be a good time to booby-trap the doors so we know if they move. We can hear furious whispers coming from out there… the glass doors are embedded in the half-wall to the hot tub room. Jeff was standing near the glass doors contemplating, when suddenly the wooden deck under the hot tub CREAKS, William’s silhouette appears and we hear “well, that was a complete fail!” I don’t think he was expecting Jeff to be standing and we all laughed and learned that the glass doors and creaky deck provided us some protection from mischief on that side!

Then Jeff remembers a burglar alarm app for his phone that is quite obnoxious. However, the 15 minutes waiting for it to download on this wonderful analog service was almost unbearable! We quickly discovered that it would only work if the screen lock never came on… Plan B… Jeff arranged plastic clothes hangers against the door and on the floor as a poor warning device.

After a miserable night trying to sleep with one eye open, we realized that was possibly the best revenge they could have plotted!

MORAL: do not pull a prank unless you first secure a place with four solid walls and a door that locks!!!

Soapy Mess

OK?!?!  Just how the heck are you supposed to clean up spilled liquid laundry detergent?!?  And no, I’m not talking about, “oops, I spilled some…”  I’m talking about the washer load was ever so slightly out of balance and someone left the bottle of detergent on the washer (probably me!), which when it hit the spin cycle, sent the bottle flying, and spinning, and pouring, and pouring while spinning (and it was a brand new bottle)!  And to exacerbate the entire situation, I accidentally bought the SCENTED kind instead of unscented and I can’t stop sneezing!!! [and ya’ll can just stop laughing now… even though I haven’t 🙂 ] AND… I stepped in it first and slid all over the place and now my foot & sock is slimy with soap!

SOOO… no idea how to clean this up… I’m trying using dirty laundry… wish me luck!

[NOTE:  New problem:  how to get LOTS of soaked-in laundry detergent off of your hands?!?!  Jeff accused me of not eating my “finger foods” with my fingers at lunch.  I just gave him “the look” and he replied “Ah, unless you think your fingers might still taste like laundry detergent.”  HUMFPH!]

[to assist you with imagining this situation please refer to my complete Redneck accent… talking really fast… while mad… while laughing… and somewhere there are probably bubbles! ;-P ]

Howdy

If you know me, you know I say howdy 😉 If you’ve ever received an email from me, odds are you seen “Howdy!” I’ve been saying it since I was little (8-10 or so), I remember we lived in Indiana, went to visit family in Texas and I heard someone say howdy (probably a family member 😉 … and it’s probably a good thing it wasn’t a curse word eh? ). I started saying “ya’ll” & “howdy” just to annoy my friends because I had a southern accent even though we lived in Indiana… so if I was gonna get teased for it… I was gonna deserve it! We moved back to Texas when I was about 13 and I have to say my accent was just as thick as all my cousins! and with “ya’ll” & “HOWDY!”… I fit right in 😉

This morning, I ran a quick errand up to the store and a man was walking out and I said “Howdy”… I say howdy to everyone so this was no different. It would’ve been like one of ya’ll saying “Good morning.” He stopped and said, “You say howdy like it comes natur’l to ya, you must be from Texas!” [notice the accent ;-)] “Why yes sir I am.” “Well I’ll be…, we are too. Whole family is up here for spring break.” By now, the rest of them have caught up. This is obviously grandpa with boots, jeans, and belt with a great big belt buckle… minus the hat (only he was a young man 😉 ). Mom, Dad, couple of teenage girls, all wearing Texas A&M shirts/sweatshirts had walked up to join him. “Well here they are now. This young lady here is from Texas, who’da thunk that we’d run into a Texan when we stopped here? Little lady, do you know where Texas A&M is?” “Yes, sir, I actually attended for a couple of years myself.” “WELL HAIL!!! THAT JUST ABOUT MAKES YOU FAMILY! This must be an alright town.”

They all talked a bit about skiing in Vail and taking some sight-seeing time to come to Denver and head down to the Air Force academy. As they were driving away, he picked up his cowboy hat and waved to me 😉

I have to tell ya, that was one of the funniest conversations I’ve ever had! Put a smile on my face!

So “Howdy ya’ll!”

And she called him a foot…

At Courtney’s choir concert last night, the director had a “mini-organ” and some orchestra players on stage. She did say the real name of the “mini-organ” but yeah… I don’t remember what she said 😉  She was explaining that the pieces were written for an organ but that their “mini-organ” did not have pedals.  So, her husband would play cello and a student was playing bass to “play the pedal pieces” in the songs. [NOTE:  more orchestra players assisted with latter songs in the concert, seen in picture below.] She continued to talk about the songs’ styles and came back to talking about the “mini-organ” again. She then said “Since this doesn’t have feet, they will be the……..” She realized what she was about to say, took a deep breath and accepted it… looked right at her husband and said “I think I just called you a foot.” Of course, the audience chuckled at her faux-paux!

I was thinking “well, that’s better than her calling him a heel…” but apparently I wasn’t just thinking it… I must’ve mumbled it loud enough for the very large man sitting next to me to hear. This man was Santa Claus and he guffawed and carried on such that the entire section was looking at us… I didn’t know him! but he finally pointed at me and said “She said better than calling him a heel… HAHAHAHAHAHA!” The entire area started laughing but fortunately for me (and Courtney), I’m pretty sure the ruckus stopped before reaching the stage area so neither the choir director nor Courtney realized there was even a commotion.

OOOOPS…. be careful what you think 😉 … and how loud you think it 😉

As usual, their choir performance was spectacular and it’s hard to believe these students are in high school.  [LOOK… I kinda took a good “low-light” picture… with my phone!]

Bald Boys

Yesterday was “St. Baldrick’s Day” at the high school. St. Baldrick’s is also a cancer clinic for children. The high school does a fundraiser where students and staff shave their heads to make money for the clinic. So when I dropped the girls off for school in the morning there were TV news vans and a St. Baldrick’s van out in front of the school. By the afternoon there were bald heads walking around and many of those showed up in Courtney’s choir concert last night! I am always amazed at the participation this school has for fundraisers!

[NOTE:  I learned later that several GIRLS had their heads shaved as well…!]
