Overheard in this house ;-)

1) I’m sorry, I can’t cook for you until I put my octopus in my room.

2) I’ll send you a thousand bells if you go take a shower.

3) My phone gets so warm, I want to put it on my feet.

4) (Overheard a phone say)… “I am your father” when Jeff called it 😉

5) “That could have broken your arm.”  “It’s all good, it’s not my texting thumb”

My Dad and Bobbie Sue

… or maybe it was Elvira 😉  If you’ve been browsing through the pictures from Christmas Day, you’ve seen one with Courtney holding an old Oak Ridge Boys CD, with a note that there’s a story to go with it. Here it is…

We have had an Oak Ridge Boys Christmas CD forever… 20 years or so I think.  Courtney likes that CD and plays it every year at Christmas, and then comes the comment about “how LOW that guy’s voice gets” and then,… the stories…

When I was a kid, I distinctly remember my dad obliging a bunch of 10-12 year old little girls (me & my friends, and possibly my siblings) by imitating the “Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-Bobbie-Sue” or “boom poppa boom poppa boom poppa mow wow” (or whatever the heck it is) in Elvira.  We’d giggle and beg him to do it again.  AND HE ALWAYS WOULD!  And having surpassed the age my dad was at that time, I’m amazed at how big a sap he was 😉 and impressed that those memories have lingered on for the telling.

Courtney has been dying to experience this first hand 😉  However, she has never in fact heard any of the songs that I talk about.  If memory serves me right, my dad had these songs on 8-track!

So as I was shopping for Christmas and browsing through bins of older CD’s… I found an Oak Ridge Boys CD with BOTH, Elvira and Bobbie Sue!  Courtney’s new favorite song is now Bobbie Sue 😉

Watch out dad, Courtney is surely planning a reunion for you and Bobbie Sue!

The Owl

Courtney and I were feeding a neighbors cat around dusk.  As we were leaving, I heard “something” like a soft swoosh and looked up to see an owl gliding, just few feet above me, to the top of a nearby telephone pole.  The silhouette of the owl against the night sky was breathtaking and the wingspan was incredible.  Once I caught my breath (yes, I was startled but miraculously, I did not make a peep!), I pointed out the owl to Courtney and we stood and watched it, watching us, for several minutes.  She even hooted us good-bye.  I love living with wildlife!

High Wind Warning

We are under a high wind warning.  That means the wind is gusting over 35mph… which it does around here on a regular basis.  I always have to smirk at high wind warnings because that’s like a tropical storm warning along a coast (without the rain).  HOWEVER… if you throw in a wind chill factor around here… YIKES, it’s a bit chilly!  The wind has been howling for a while now, we might actually lose some shingles with this one 😉

Christmas Eve

We started a tradition when we were first married that we would open one gift on Christmas Eve… BUT… that gift would be chosen for you… (and coincidentally, it would always be brand new pajamas 😉 ).  This works well when you have kids because then they always have on new, neat and hopefully clean jammies for pictures the next morning 😉  For the past several years, we seem to have a new tradition of having someone’s pajamas that are several sizes too large.  This year was no exception 😉  Here’s hoping you all have a wonderful, very Merry Christmas!

Cards are in the mail!

OK, they may not get there BEFORE Christmas, but cards are in the mail!  Keep in mind that I found a batch from last year, addressed, stamped even… at St. Patty’s Day and sent them out anyway!  If you didnt’ get one this year, I’d honestly LOVE to send you one RIGHT NOW and keep in touch.  PLEASE email me your snail-mail address.  I ordered extras so I can do a better job of keeping in touch with extended family and long lost friends!

Interesting snow effects

[pics incl]  Our Christmas lights are buried under the snow but the lights still came on and created a beautiful glowing snow effect.  And the drift on the roof above the front door has very interesting designs.  We may have to take that down though so it doesn’t take out anyone!
