Non-fingerprints
To continue some work with the school district I had to go through a process of fingerprinting and background check… standard process when working with kiddos. While having my fingerprints taken it became clear that the machine did NOT like my “ridges” and required 5-6 attempts (PER FINGER) to capture the minimum required image for fingerprint analysis. Fortunately for me, the person in charge of fingerprinting knows me [happens to be a neighbor] and she felt compelled to point out that although this is rare, it’s not unheard of… and it would actually be really good for me if I felt the need to take up a life of crime 😉 Needless to say, the entire process took a LOT longer than a standard fingerprinting experience! She told me that if I ever had to get a secret clearance, it would be a serious issue because the FBI, etc is finicky about people without fingerprints. These would be adequate for the school district but NOT the FBI 😉
[NOTE: I have not researched this but according to my neighbor, the sheriff deputy, apparently there is a known thing about not having fingerprints and other symptoms include lack of sweating (or minimal), dry skin, brittle nails & hair… and I have all those other symptoms…. She also said some cancer treatments can cause fingerprints to deteriorate. The things you learn in “jail.” 😉 hmmm, may have to research that more and see where it leads me…. maybe crime does pay ;-)]
[NOTE: After thinking about this more, I realize now that I have never been able to successfully use “fingerprint readers” (i.e. laptops w/ biometric readers, buildings with fingerprint scanners, etc). Those “touch” displays don’t recognize me either but that’s probably because my hands are cold… or I have no electric current 😉 go ahead, I hear ya! ]
Well done fajitas
[pics incl] I’d like to preface this with the statement “I DIDN’T DO IT!” 😉 FYI, a flank steak will reduce to less than half it’s size when left on the grill [on high] overnight.

Thanks for the birthday wishes
WOW! Overwhelming calls, texts, Facebook posts for my birthday. THANK YOU. And no, I never did figure out why Facebook decided to tell some of you that my birthday was on October 1st… I appreciate all the well wishes from Saturday too 😉
Today was a nice day. It was NOT the kind of day that you can kick back and do nothing for your birthday kind of day though. We had parent/teacher conferences in the afternoon, then a choir concert and basketball game at the same time in two different places. Soooo, I let the high school choir sing for me 😉 (ok, Courtney claims her teacher doesn’t purposely schedule the concerts on my birthday but this is year two… if it’s on my birthday NEXT year… we’ll know for sure 😉 ).
Thank you again for thinking of me and taking the time to wish me a Happy Birthday (or in some cases… some of you wished me “the happy anniversary of 18th bday, 25th bday, 29th bday…”)
I’d type more but it’s hard to type and eat Blue Bell at the same time….

Bear
[pics incl] Last week we had a bobcat [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2011/09/22/here-kitty-kitty/ ]… this week a brown bear! We were not around to witness it but one of our neighbors emailed pictures to our neighborhood. Thanks Floyd!
Camping with Dogs
Let me preface this by saying “we” were not camping with any dogs. However, as we were driving in/out of the campground we noticed many of the bigger RV’s seemed to have dogs, and more interestingly they all seemed to have their dogs out on tables giving them baths with really fancy dog grooming gear. Turns out that there was a huge dog show at the fairground just down the road….
*sigh*…. that explains the barking dogs ALL NIGHT LONG…

Anniversary Dinner
Jeff was trying to convince the kids to cook us dinner for our anniversary. Courtney went into the pantry and came out with ideas of things she is capable of cooking: spaghetti or udon noodles with spaghetti sauce 😉 There was a lot of discussion about what to cook and HOW to cook it. Jeff wanted it “this way” but Courtney didn’t want to cook that, etc. I finally chimed in and said “But I cook things for you all the time, that I don’t want.” Courtney responded “Yah, but we don’t want it either.”
Here’s what Courtney has to say: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/courtney/2011/09/29/its-been-21-years/
All I have to say is that I know that I can tell the fire department that it WAS NOT me smoking up the house!

Where do you take your anniversary when it turns 21? 😉 Can you believe we’ve been married 21 years…? WOW! Maybe we should throw it a party 😉 You sure can accumulate a lot of memories in 21 years… and stuff… and kids…. 😉
Feel like reminiscing? I posted a wedding picture in last year’s post: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2010/09/29/wow-two-decades-later/
