It was a bit chilly

[pix incl] We drove up to the mountains for the weekend and while I was driving we saw a snow plow and then a de-icing truck. From where I am, it’s 75 degrees, and mostly sunny! Courtney and I just looked at each other and I said, well, maybe they just want to be extra ready 😉 A few minutes later, it began to rain and as I drove up over Berthoud Pass, the temp dropped to 40! After a while, I needed to pull over to stretch my back so of course, we had to take a picture of the temperature gauge for all of ya’ll sending me your triple digits!

Night driving

I’m thinking that I was never responsible for taking Heather out with her permit the first few times she drove at night.  I’m basing that thought on the not-quite-so-extreme panic I felt when I let Courtney drive at night for the first time tonight.  It was my idea, she’s been doing fine during the day.  And while we are at it, let’s throw in some serious construction where one little misstep can leave you hanging off the edge of the road.  There are PLENTY of cones to guide the way (and they are NOT wide enough apart during the day… I should have remembered that).

After about 45 minutes of driving around town, I finally started feeling my fingers again so I was willing to let her continue driving.  Needless to say, when we picked up Ashley from basketball, I advised her to buckle-up and BE QUIET!  But after several minutes, I felt compelled to ask Ashley how it was going back there… she wisely refrained from comment 😉

For the record, no cones were destroyed during this experience (one *MIGHT* have wobbled a bit) 😉

William asked me to go outside and play hacky-sack with him… SO I DID 😉  Courtney “pulled a me” and grabbed my camera and video-recorded my not so coordinated attempt to look cool.  I assure you that you will never see this video 😉

What NOT to wear

Today I had to take Courtney to the dentist and when I walked into the waiting area several women were talking. One was apparently going on about fashion but was going to make an attempt to include me in this conversation although I had arrived late. HOWEVER, she did it in a snide, underhanded kind of way. You see, I was NOT dressed up, I had been painting/caulking just before this but had changed into “better” clothes. I was only in beige capri’s and a pink t-shirt and tennis shoes (kinda trademark clothes for me… and yes, my socks, ALL OF THEM, are pink and white!). This pretty much describes my entire wardrobe and I felt that SHE suspected this. So as she was chattering along to the other women about clothes, she turned to me and “very politely” and yet OH SO RUDELY asked me “… and where do you get your style sense?…”

“The dryer.”

She was OFFENDED and huffed & puffed and stomped out of there. Oh well, guess she didn’t like my shoes 😉

Cooking in the twilight zone

Twice this week I have cooked dinner.  The first time THEY LIKED IT? (well, NOT Courtney but she doesn’t count 😉 )  I told Heather “I cooked something with a sauce and they ate it!” I actually considered that a successful poisoning 😉  The next time, I cooked but I didn’t make enough and they complained that there wasn’t enough.  HOWEVER, I would like to point out that they did not say it was GOOD… just not enough 😉

A LONG time ago…

Our dryer broke this week after I washed a load of jeans. So I grabbed the jeans, opened the back door and prepared to hang them out over the deck railing. The kids asked me what I was doing “You are going to put them OUTSIDE?!? in the AIR?!?!” I said, well people didn’t always have dryers you know. Ashley replied “Yeah but that was back before they had jeans!”

Gene pool skimmer is broken

I stole that line from a friend… it applies here.  You see, I had a surreal experience: driving behind a guy who was PURPOSELY driving over yellow line. Obviously he knew a long line of school buses was coming. He’d wait until last second, cross over line, stick out his hand & run it along length of bus?!? Cars/buses tried to dodge him but he’d just go farther over line for next bus. I was behind him & I cannot believe he was doing it! After several miles, we stopped at light & there was a LITTLE kid in the passenger seat!

I could of titled this:  Instructions on how to lose your arm!

Yes, I managed to collect all the info (make/model/license/description) and I emailed our non-emergency sheriff’s address after I got home.

Our new favorite word

Our new favorite word just might be SKYPE… it certainly helps with the withdrawal symptoms of Heather leaving for college.  It would be much more helpful if the internet in her building would function!  I have to say, video chat makes the world a LOT smaller place 😉
