Pickel’s and Scott’s, and Add a Little Bacon

[pics incl]  Stacy’s kids were available and we needed some quick Pickel cousin time!  Going out to eat has kinda been my nemesis but Esteban’s was calling!  A close second, is Esteban’s TO GO 😉  I had planned to visit with my cousin Autumn (maiden name Bacon) so I just asked her and Nathaniel (YES… another Nathaniel 😉 ) to join me at Stacy’s… and “by the way what is YOUR Esteban order” 😉  The second we picked up food and left, Kyle (Bacon) contacted me… “Got off work early… whatcha doing?”  I was driving so I had William text him “Mom is driving.  Go to Stacy’s, there will be food.”  The genius stopped and brought dessert!  Poor Stacy has been “the beneficiary of much company” without the benefit of actually being home in the past week to do any preparations for said company.  Tonight, we proved that we can pull off something better than “a bad cafeteria experience.” [Trays, included] 😉  We pulled all the chairs in the house into the living room and had ourselves a nice visit! (I say “we” loosely as I did nothing)

Wesley has a selfie stick…. so we are ALL in the photo!

Visiting with Cindy Sue

[pics incl] Today, we visited with my Aunt Cindy at Aunt Doris’s and Uncle Leo’s house. We met Deborah’s husband Nathanial there as well. It was nice to get some hugs in, and a few photos of course. I promised to write Cindy a letter, after I get back home to Colorado, and include some pictures. She liked the slideshow of our trip so far 😉  At one point, Aunt Doris asked me what a zerbert is…. there is no way to explain that… I just had to show her!!! HAHAHAHA!

At Galveston Beach

[pics incl] I kept telling William that since we are “so close” to an actual ocean (being from a land locked state), that I should take him down to see it. When I talked to my cousin Deborah, she said she takes her kids to a “quieter beach” and an impromptu trip was in the making. Aunt Doris joined us and I brought my niece Katie (Gillman) and her friend Brenna. Voila… I took William to Galveston to see the ocean 😉 Somehow, I got sunburned?!?!? I had on sunscreen, a big floppy hat AND I was sitting under a giant beach umbrella?!?! Well, at least I didn’t pass out like I usually do when exposed to sun (one of my meds specifically says NO SUN).

Visiting the Gillman’s

[pics incl]  Today, we just ate a quiet meal at Patti’s & John’s (I’m staying with Jeff’s sister and family, in Alvin, TX).  Jessica, Joe and Penelope showed up long enough to be dragged into my photos!  The dog heard us say “pictures” and promptly “POSED!”

Accidentally Found Steve Jones

[pics incl]  I try to visit my friend Steve Jones (known since middle school!) every time that I am in League City.  We had been playing “FB tag” online without actually catching each other.  As I was leaving my parents yesterday, I made a comment that “I think Steve moved to someplace around here.” and they laughed and said, “right over there.”  So today, I emailed him that I was at my parents and he called back, while Neil was hanging around.  We both suffer from “short term memory loss” but it’s great that we’ve know each other BEFORE all that (he knows/knew Jeff and Neil, too 😉 )!  It was AWESOME to catch up and I wish I could remember all the funny stories we all told, but I do remember the laughs!

Somehow, my shoes are missing?!?!  WHY?!?  Clearly, my parents love Stevie better than me… “crustless bread” was on the menu, but I drew the line at “bologna with ketchup” and “pineapple coconut juice!”  Have fun on your trip next month, Stevie, and take LOTS of pictures!

A HUGE shout-out THANK YOU to my parents (Alan and Patsy Bacon) for pulling together a wonderful, impromptu lunch… especially AFTER I insisted that no bologna was going to be eaten by me… and you went to the store, and while you were gone… I invited friends over without asking… and then I said “NO KETCHUP”… and NO pineapple coconut juice…..  and I whined that the crust was missing from my bread.  And you also managed to take awesome pictures for “my memories!”  Thanks!

Happy Father’s Day

[pics incl] These photos include Al Bacon’s family kids/grandkids, Rick Bacon’s family kids/grandkids, Neil & Nathan Gale! Some were just “drive-by hugs” & pics but I’ll take it!  Yes, I really did sit in my mom’s lap 😉  Stacy and I needed coffee before we could communicate with each other… but HUGS are a universal language!  I’m really not sure what dad is doing and it’s clear that Rick is a little afraid of that face.

Driving Around Morales 06/19/15

[pics incl]  Well… we are all still in Morales 😉  I’m thinking Deidra is jealous of the quality time William and I are getting wither her parents.  We have a secret handshake now and everything! 😉

Today, we took their Suburban out to see if we could “get out of this area.”  Their Suburban is higher up than my car, but it is NOT 4WD, so for the most part, we assumed IF they can get out, my car can get out.  We drove all around for 2.5 hours… and did NOT get out.  There is one way (on a dirt road for about 4 miles) right near there house, that has been flooded but when the water recedes a bit, some of the great big, 4WD trucks have been getting through… and assuring us that under no circumstances will her Suburban or my car get through that area.

SOOOO, looking at your map, William and I are currently off of Hwy 111, where you take CR 283 to CR 284 (we are out on 284) before you get back to CR 18. My only chance of getting out will be CR 284 to CR 401 to CR 282 to 530 to 1300. 1300 to 710/CR 399 has standing water today that 4WD can get through. I might try 1300 to 71 in El Campo…. otherwise, I’ll be back in Morales 🙂

[NOTE UPDATE:  it took us over 2hrs to get from the Whitley’s to El Campo, via back roads, but as of 06/20/15 2:15pm, we are out and on our way to Alvin, TX]

Still in Morales 06/18/15

[pics incl] Robbie and I went down the road today and the river is still over its banks. We met the 8-10 truck electric company caravan along the way. The last guy stopped to chat and apologize for taking so long. Apparently they had to MANUALLY carry a pole “back in there where the trucks can’t go.” You may be asking HOW they are getting in/out. There is a dirt road out one way that was under water but now the only big 4wd vehicles can get through. I am not in my 4wd Suburban, I am in a little, low to the ground car. Robbie won’t even take her Suburban down it because it’s not 4wd. William and I are about to start rearranging bedrooms the way we like them. FYI, Deidra is NOT here, it’s just the 4 of us.

We ran into a local who walked across the river yesterday when it was about 3 FEET high but he said it quickly rose higher on him returning back over.

NEVER Insult Mother Nature

[pics incl]  I stepped outside to take a few pictures of the river flooding across the road again (it appeared to have receded earlier).  I also took pictures of the electric company replacing the pole nearby.

I stepped inside and said “Ya know how you can smell if it’s gonna rain?  Well if you step out right now and take a really deep breath… It smells like wet dog!” 🙂

BAM!  The sky opened up and IT IS RAINING A MONSOON… but only over this house!!!

Dear Mother Nature, in my defense, there were 3 wet dogs at my feet! You can stop now!

The river appears to have receded @8:50amCT:

The river suddenly reappeared 12:50pmCT:

They have erected a new electric pole! No power yet! [NOTE UPDATE: power back on/off and has stayed on since 3:30pmCT]:

Look close, see that solo green dot to the left of the “E” in El Campo? We are there.

Pouring Rain in Morales 06/18/15

It’s 3:15am and the cows just woke me up?! It’s pouring rain as hard as it was before… so is this another rain band from TS Bill?!

William & I might need to change our address to Morales 😉

Waterlogged in Morales, TX

As of 06/17/15 4:30pm CT, William and I are at Deidra’s parents (Don & Robbie Whitley) in Morales, TX.  A tornado came through about 7:00pm CT last night and took down some poles 1/4 mile from house and we lost power.  It came back on about 4:45am but the power company just called to say it’s be a couple days before they could restore?!

I have lots on photos and “stories” from our visits in Lubbock, Moulton, Shiner and Morales.  However, I do not have phone service.  We randomly have a bit of wi-fi between bands of storms.  I am using Robbie’s phone to post (FYI, Deidra is flooded in at her place in Edna.

We drove out a few miles to the “highest place that floods” in their Suburban.  There are 6 ways out, and all 6 are flooded.  Highway 59 is closed both ways at El Campo.  If this will let me upload the pictures, then you can see that I won’t be leaving in my little car ANYTIME soon.  if it’s not visible, then I can only write text and not images, look for those later in the week, if I get out.

These low pressures are wreaking havoc on my brain pain.  For the most part but every once in a while I get stopped in my tracks in pain.  Based on this new experience, I will NOT be driving long stretches nor driving in this crazy weather!!

At 7:00pm we went out again and roads are still covered. I’m not gonna try again tonight, so maybe tomorrow.

As of 10:00pm, three of the rivers HAVE NOT crested, and are expect later tomorrow.  I THINK This is the Navidad River, the Lavaca River, is nearby to the west and the Brazos is the other that is flooding the roads.

These are some of the road closures blocking the roads (not all are shown)!

Tornado Near Morales 06/16/15

[pics incl] NOT tornado pix.  Pretty sure we heard it coming, all alerts went off, trees shuddered in the wind…. We headed to the hallway and promptly lost electricity.  On Wednesday, we went to check on Aunt Suzy, across the road (with the Navidad River in her back yard).  She and Whiskers are fine!]

[NOTE: LOTS more pics, watch for updates & slideshows]

This was the weather alert we all received “Tornado Warning” and if you clicked on it, this map appeared, so we went to the hallway.

At the Whitley’s in Morales 06/15/15

[pics incl]  We arrived at Don & Robbie Whitley’s in Morales, TX on Sunday and Deidra was there.  We visited, took some pictures and ate lunch in Victoria.  It was while watching the news before bed that I first heard of Tropical Depression, now Storm “Bill.”  I called many of you because I am not up to driving with random head pain, in pouring rain and crazy winds.  I am in my little car, not my 4WD Suburban.

[NOTE: LOTS more pics, watch for updates & slideshows]

William Did NOT Run Over a Snake 06/14/15

[pics incl]  I let William drive on the back roads in Moulton, Shiner and Morales, he’s excellent at avoiding sudden deer.  Also, NO snakes were harmed during these driving expeditions (ask him… 🙂 ).  Before we left the Hull farm in Moulton, Andrew and his wife Therese brought their youngest 4 kids out (same 4 from yesterday).  They milked the cow and I took lots of pictures (so watch for slideshows whenever I get good wifi service).  Then we went out to visit Aunt Kate in town, before leaving (ask her about that bar of dark chocolate I left for her 😉 ).  THEN, we stopped by to hug Aunt Betty in Shiner before heading to Morales.
