Cooking… in the Laundry Room

[pics incl] We cooked breakfast this morning, IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM!!? (omelettes & breakfast sausage). jeff set up the George Foreman and a panini maker and we were good to go. I took this photo last night, which was burgers and brats.

Ode to Paint Chips

We are trying to decide what color to repainted the walls around the kitchen cabinets. Currently, the walls are a very deep forestry green but I’m leaning toward a “country blue.” I know I have a bag of paint chips from each paint we have used in/on the house. I cannot find it. I was on a mission to find it today, so I opened every box I could find [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2015/05/15/emotional-moment/]

I gave up and just went online to try to match some of our existing colors with whatever we might choose. I mentioned to Roni that a washed denim look might be nice and she found one called “skinny jeans.” But I think the hue is off 😉 hence, my search for paint chips. The problem is that the colors we used years ago are “obsoleted” and new numbers and shades have replaced them.

After spending a frustrating hour, I had a thought… Courtney “collects paint chips.” [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2012/08/04/i-spy/] She has ALWAYS collected paint chips, so maybe, she has some from “our time.”

So I txt Courtney “if u were possibly hoarding bags/boxes of paint chips from HD… where would they be? pls have lots”

Moments later, I had my hands on A LOT of paint chips but only ones she liked… 🙂 AND… MY BAG OF PAINT CHIPS!!! I told ya, she collects paint chips.

So for future reference, I highly recommend grabbing all the “matching paint chips” in your color schemes (and even those that are close matches)! And here’s a thought, have your kids do it and no one will judge you! 🙂

Emotional Moment

Today, I found a file box that I have assumed was 2012 keepable papers (ie Tax stuff, not necessarily needed every day but something to keep)…. wrong!

What I found was a carefully packed box from May 2013. Remember brain clot Apil 2013: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/04/08/its-not-a-head-achy/]

It has in it Christmas card 2012 redo’s (ie, your card came back to me or I received yours later) and a list of weddings, babies, graduations to acknowledge. Clearly I had already begun these. I feel terrible that many of these important events were seemingly overlooked! I will endeavor to fix that!

Then, there are a lot of “get well” cards and gifts from April 2013. I have NO MEMORY of any of these . 🙁
Obviously, I owe lots of people THANK YOU’s!

And also… Courtney’s graduation announcements. Mid-send out. And, I have talked about these but I didn’t realize they weren’t finished, I thought she just needed to do Thank You’s & went to China… and still needs to do those.

What I found was a carefully packed box that shows how our lives abruptly halted in early April 2013… began again slowly and came to a screeching halt in late April 2013 [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2014/04/08/a-year-ago-and-surgery-2/]… and was packed away because there were more important things… than all this… this box of important things.

I sit here and I’m stunned and I look through these things with NO MEMORY of receiving the gifts/cards. And it’s all back… how much all this could have turned out SO DIFFERENTLY.

I found a box full of emotion.

Remodel Flooring Change… Again!

[pics incl] Jeff txt’d me a picture of one of the cabinets, sitting on some of the tile we purchased. Everyone hates it.

We all stood there and finally decided we had to change it… again (we’ve gone from ideas of tile, wood, back to tile…) We decided Roni had to come with us because clearly, THIS TIME, was final. 🙂

When we bought this tile (yes, it’s porcelain tile, NOT wood), Jeff and Roni picked up the first 2-3 planks at the store, and while they varied a bit, they were basically all shades of brown (not tan nor gray). The colors per case actually vary from an off white to a charcoal gray, with tan to brown as well! Most of the white we are placing under the cabinets. John put William in charge if the color scheme.

[UPDATE 05/16/15: Floor in progress and testing (and debating lively) the new wall color choices.

Kitchen Status 05/13/15

[pics incl] There is no kitchen 😉 Picture erroneously implies that Jeff is doing the kitchen, actually John has done 3/4 of it w/ Jeff, William and Ashley helping as schedules allow. We had to wait for the cabinets & flooring orders AND John has been out of town so they are just really starting to work on it. All hands on deck in the next few days, so it’ll be finished in near future (I think). Yes, I’ve taken lots of photos 😉

Possible Trip to Texas

if my brain will cooperate, I’m debating a trip to TX sometime around mid-June… maybe for a couple weeks? I know there’s that big family reunion in early June but unfortunately I cannot go at that time. I probably cannot leave until the 12th or so. I haven’t even begun to think about what route(s) I will drive but if you have a couch I can crash on; I’ll consider that direction 🙂 Let me know if/when you will be around and I’ll start planning 😉 If you are in CO and have a crazy notion to head to TX… holler 😉

I do plan to visit Moulton & League City area, other than that… no plans.

[NOTE UPDATES as of 05/13/15: ok, I’ve txt’d some of ya’ll just to get an idea of a timeline… Aunts/Cousins/Friends, etc (clearly I’ve neglected Uncles ;-P … )

Life has changed since I last visited and I cannot just do whatever I want, my head pain will be in control. I will NOT be going to listen to your band at a club… I’m still VERY hyper-sensitive to sound. I’m assuming that hyper-sensitivity to cold, will NOT be an issue in TX 😉

I have a few people that I WILL go out of my way to visit and they are located in Moulton/Shiner/Edna areas, Kerrville and League City/Alvin areas; or immediately along those routes. Since I will be missing the family reunion to celebrate birthdays for two of my great-aunts… I will be going to see them, hence that route.

The rest will have to remain flexible. If you can “come to me,” I’d be grateful!

I’ll probably head through Amarillo-Odessa area at least once because I do have family “kinda sorta around that path.” I doubt I will go through Grapeland or Dallas areas though, but maybe I can plan some lunches up north of Houston, or something?

If you live along a possible route, let me know… but no promises!

Mother’s Day Snow 2015

looks like snow is slowing by 6:45am MT 05/10/15

by noon it’s melting fast

The leaves look “burnt,” I hope they recover!

AWH Man! after the snow all melted, our back/side tree is broken!?! 🙁

La Fogata Dinner with Leung’s 05/09/15

[pics incl] We met the Leung’s for an early dinner (ok, call it a Mother’s Day dinner) at La Fogata. All the employees asked about Heather and Courtney… who are they again? ;-P

It’s been rainy for a couple weeks now and tonight it’s supposed to snow! So, I decided we should go to dinner at 4:30pm instead of later, good idea!

Kevin handed his phone to another server so that both William and Jaime could be in our group photo! But then William had to teach him how to txt me the photo… because I NEVER get Kevin’s photos that he says he txts to me. Having 1000 phone numbers in his details for me might have been the issue… considering most of them were more than 10yrs old! All better now.

Jeff is still on a mission to teach Kevin to talk with a “Texas accent.” ” Just talk like John Wayne…” This is a Chinese guy being told to talk like John Wayne… I’m still laughing! [more about that: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2015/03/14/la-fogata-dinner-with-leungs-031415/ ]

Ashley’s “Other Father” has decided that she WILL get her driver’s license… Stay tuned on how that works out 😉

I Have a Problem with My Jeans

[pics incl] I was pretty sure I washed all the jeans last night, including mine. This morning, I was unable to find my jeans in the dryer… everyone else’s jeans are there, but not mine. Maybe I didn’t wash my jeans. Or maybe Ashley took them by mistake? When I picked up Ashley from school she was NOT wearing my jeans?!? Clearly the dryer ate my jeans! But later, I found my jeans… ON WILLIAM!?!?! For fair play, I put his on… but they are too short 😉 William did comment that he immediately noticed that his jeans pockets were suddenly WAY TOO SHORT for his phone?!? [ON A SIDE NOTE: Why is that? Do jeans manufacturers not realize that women have the exact same size phones as men??… RANT….]

All Yards Gettin’ Mowed

[pics incl] I thought I heard the lawn mower and weedeater out front… but then I was pretty sure I heard the yard tractor out back?!? We have “new” new neighbors and apparently they are all helping with the chores, across both yards, because the rain has been so sporadic and supposed to rain again soon. At one point William stopped to get a drink and talked about finishing the neighbor’s front yard, but when he turned around, someone beat him to it 😉 I told him there would be plenty of summer for him to go over and randomly mow their grass 😉 They clearly had one of the cutest little helpers!

I’m Still NOT Sleeping

It’s been several days since I’ve slept, so if any of you have any advice… I’m listening! I hate the drugs because I feel like they do the exact opposite and wire me up… or if they do work , it takes HOURS for them to kick-in (I’m the same way w/ all anesthesia… it’s annoying)…. so any suggestions at this point would be extremely welcome!
