Checkout…or not

It was the kind of day where the cashier walks away from the register… after we unloaded our cart… and so had the lady behind us?!?!?

Shake, Rattle and Roll

[pics incl] Wish that was about a song but it’s about the storm we had tonight. The tornadoes skirted by us but we got lots of hail and about 3″ of rain in less than an hour!

About Sharing

I have learned that you should just share that piece of raw cookie dough with Courtney… because licking it all over and scarfing it down quickly backfires 😉

All that, and the kitchen sink

You know how people say “Well, you packed everything but the kitchen sink?”

Remember… we had to go to Home Depot to get a new kitchen faucet?

We had a long list of “stuff” we needed to do minor repairs/maintenance/finish remodeling around the house so we had a cart FULL by the time we stopped to look at kitchen faucets.  [NOTE:  I say “we” but this is mostly a “me” thing… I have this long list of things I will be doing 😉 ]  After Heather texted us photos of our current kitchen faucet setup, we FINALLY picked out a faucet set and headed toward the checkout.

HOWEVER, I made the comment that it’s too bad we are getting a nice new faucet to put on an “old” sink. [NOTE:  there’s a background story here that’s about 2 years old…  involving a jar of HOT BOILING grease and a wet sink and a “ruined” spot in the sink…]

Hehe… we have a new sink now (well, it’s not installed, yet) and it’s reversed from the other setup with the deep sink on the other side so we can move the garbage disposal.  I told Jeff if he could buy “me” new dishes for Mother’s Day, then I was justified in buying him a new place to wash them for Father’s Day.

When we got home, we had the kids help unload all the “stuff.”  Jeff told the kids… “Mom bought all that… and the kitchen sink too!”

How to shampoo carpets

I’ve been wanting to shampoo the carpets for a while now and my parents showed up and I had not done it yet.  However, I finally couldn’t stand it anymore and decided to shampoo them.  I was about halfway done or so when I decided that I didn’t like the way they looked.  First, let me say that you should follow the directions on the shampooer to get proper results.  Second, what harm is there in disassembling the unit if you think it’s not working properly 😉  I’m “little miss fix-it remember?”  I know I have some neighbors that think that all I do is take things apart (or do demolition vs. remodeling) around here.

After I cleaned and reassembled the shampooer AND… after Heather came in and vigorously attacked a couple of trouble spots… the carpet looks better… not great but better.

BUT WAIT… there’s more!

You see, if I am gonna have the furniture pulled out of the room, I should patch a couple of holes on the wall and touch up the paint here and there.  OOOOH, and I should take down all the blinds and wash them (and the windows too).  And if I’m gonna touch up paint in here… I should do it in there too.

I have a list started… and a planned trip to Home Depot (kitchen faucet… remember?)  😉

Do NOT Drink and Drive

I have this saying “Don’t drink and drive, because if you die, I promise I will dig you up and kill you again!”

I feel strongly about drinking and driving and I always have!  Don’t do it!

I had a dream as a kid that made a huge impression on me… I INSIST people wear seat belts and I INSIST people do NOT drink and drive.

It’s a well known fact… call me… I’ll come and get you, no questions asked!

In high school, a good friend of mine was killed while riding his bike up to meet us at the high school for the football game, he was one of my best friend’s boyfriend.  It was a pointless death that will always stay with me.  Unfortunately, it was the first of many to encroach upon my circle of friends throughout my life.

Don’t do it… Do NOT drink and drive… because if you die, I promise I will dig you up and kill you again!

Garbage disposal, part 2

Ok, it’s not really about the garbage disposal 😉  Which, by the way, is fabulous because you can stand next to it and talk and turn it on and not even notice.  This time Jeff was standing at the sink and realized his socks were wet…. [remember last time?] ARGH.  Ok, you can’t really blame the garbage disposal because it’s really the plumbing under the sink and the faucet (which recently started leaking too).  The plumbing was originally installed in such a way that its installation just makes it easy to dismantle by accident.

My dad was all for redoing it while he was under there, but the sink is two levels (one side is much deeper than the other) and its depth dictates which side the garbage disposal is on.

Jeff disassembled the plumbing and refitted all the pieces again and it works fine now (we hope)… except for the leaking faucet.  So a trip to Home Depot is in order YAY!

Enjoying retirement dad?

[pics incl]  My dad retired recently (hence the visit here).  However, he must miss yardwork and repairs because I caught him out in the yard 😉

How to fix a dryer

The dryer broke about 3 weeks ago so Jeff disassembled it and ordered the parts needed from the Sears website. Once the parts came in, Jeff realized that the nut needed was actually REVERSE threaded. There is actually a whole story here about how he and William managed to get the original nut off the dryer to begin with (not knowing it was reverse threaded at the time 😉 ).

SOOOOO, he and William went to every part store in the metro area looking for a reverse thread nut. Yes, one little reverse thread nut was making me do laundry at a laundromat! Just so you know, there is NOT a 3/8″ reverse thread nut in the greater Denver area… so Jeff got ahold of Sears Service Center and they offered to order the part for him (instead of using their website)….

About 10 days later, we are STILL waiting on the part. I had gone up to our mailbox at the UPS store and texted Jeff that the part was STILL not here, so he called Sears. Meanwhile, I arrived at home to browse through the mail and found a postcard from UPS.

Pay attention here, it gets tricky 😉

UPS sent a postcard using an incomplete address but the postal workers know us so they sent it along to the UPS store, where they also know us (AND… they know we’ve been waiting on a dryer part for weeks). I’m reading this postcard that says “Our UPS driver was unable to deliver a package due to an incomplete address. Your package was taken to [a UPS depot] where you can pick it up for the next 6 days at which time it will be returned to Sears.”

SERIOUSLY!?!?!?

UMMMMM… they sent the postcard to the exact address that they were complaining about… you know, the incomplete one they couldn’t find?!?! you know… the UPS Store?!?!? USPS-1, UPS-0

Of course, this was about 4:30pm on a Friday and the depot was only open til 6:00pm M-F.

Remember, Jeff is on the phone with Sears? So, I paged him on another phone and told him we had a postcard, which is a good thing because even though Sears has a tracking number, they cannot locate the package via UPS. Sears-0, UPS-(-1)

We just decided to go and get the part. I promise you the guy working the counter at the UPS depot was just as stumped as we were: they sent a postcard to a known wrong address and didn’t bother to call the number to verify the address?

So we have confirmed that UPS does NOT know where their own UPS store is located 😉

Yes, the dryer is fixed…. 😉
