It’s NOT a Dr. Seuss Word

[pics incl] Have you ever heard of a Moss-Covered Three-Handled Family Credenza? I bet you think Dr. Seuss, right?! Well, Courtney and I decided that we “NEED” a Moss-Covered Three-Handled Family Credenza. She asked, “Where does one purchase a Moss-Covered Three-Handled Family Credenza?”

I “Googled” it. Guess what, Theodore Geisel did NOT write (create) the Moss-Covered Three-Handled Family Credenza, it was added into the Cat In The Hat TV movie, by animator Chuck Jones. (This is, of course, according to “some guy” on the internet, who was researching for some “other guy” on the internet).

YOU needed to know this, so that is why I am telling you so.

I never finished tracking down a Moss-Covered Three-Handled Family Credenza but I did find prints/cards available that show The Cat in the Hat holding a Moss-Covered Three-Handled Family Credenza.

Prayers for Uncle Norman’s Family

We were deeply saddened to hear that my Uncle Norman and Joyce Bacon learned today that their League City home burned with Joyce’s son Michael. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We love you!

Joseph Michael Pergande, age 59, passed away on December 27, 2013. Mike, the first of six brothers and sisters, was born on April 8, 1954 in Metropolis, Illinois, to Joe L. Pergande and Joyce Melba Bacon. He is survived by his mother, his daughters Holly Pergande Gamez, Ashley Pergande, and Michelle Pergande, his sisters Beth Treece, Lisa Payne, and Heather Ivey, his brothers Shawn Pergande and Shannon Ivey, his granddaughters Charlotte Gamez and Emilie Gamez, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. Visitation will be held at the Crowder Funeral Home, 111 E. Medical Center Blvd., from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 15500 El Camino Real, at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 2, 2014, with a reception immediately following. Final interment will be at IOOF Cemetery in Metropolis, Illinois.
If desired, contributions in Mike’s memory may be directed to The American Cancer Society.

A Dim Sum Christmas

[pics incl] When we were at dinner the other night, we discussed going out for Chinese Dim Sum on Christmas Day with Kevin (his family would be out of town). We all dressed up because the last time Kevin invited us [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2012/05/06/dim-sum/ ] we were under-dressed! This was something new for all of us! (I also learned that EVERYONE else is TERRIBLE at taking photos!!! ALL of the images not taken by me are blurry, out of focus, etc and yet, no one would let ME take the photos 😉 here are a few of the legible ones). Drew is in full Navy dress and Courtney’s friend, Claudia, also joined us. It was great fun!

Hanging Tree Ornaments

We finally put the tree up several days ago (I say “we” very loosely … I did nothing, except pull an awesome prank on the cats! [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/12/21/how-to-train-cats/ ] ). Christmas has really snuck up on us this year and everyone kept saying “we CAN’T put the tree up yet “_______” is not here, we all have to be here!” Problem is, they are NEVER ALL HERE!

So, tree is up but NO ornaments! we CAN’T put the ornaments on yet “_______” is not here, we all have to be here!” (Courtney is in FL: [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/12/22/die-like-a-klingon/ ]

Actually, the real reason is probably because they could not find the ornament hooks. 😉

I suggested we use clothes pin. (Awh, you know that’s funny! Redneck ornament hooks!)

I went to the garage, first box, right here in plain sight. We now have A FEW ornaments on the tree!

…Abby showed up to hang out. When Jeff walked in the room and began talking to the kids… I pointed and said “that… is… NOT Ashley.” That wasn’t a problem ;-)… several minutes later he told Abby to “help me put ornaments on the tree.” Without skipping a beat “I’m comfortable, bro.” Stepped right into Ashley’s shoes: [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/09/04/good-story-bro-tell-it-again/ ] She’s lot taller so now we have ornaments “up high!”

As they were all going through our eclectic collection of handmade-by-kid ornaments, Abby said “Hey, I made this!” After finding a few, we decided to give her credit 1/5 of the kid ornaments!

How to Train Cats

3 cats + Christmas Tree + purposefully placed hand vacuum wrapped around tree trunk (it’s on, I unplug/plugin w/ cord dragged across the room!)= VERY FUNNY SCATTERING CATS (although, we all have puncture wounds from their attempts to climb walls, etc)… I… am… a… genius!

….I really didn’t think it through though… I don’t stop bleeding when punctured; it’s soooo worth it!

[NOTE: Update: Courtney came home on 12/24/13 and was sitting near the tree… and cats in the tree. Jeff turned on the vacuum. Apparently, it scatters kids too 😉 I’m just sorry I missed that! ]

Chinese Cough Syrup

[pics incl] Ashley’s had a cough/cold for a while and the cold weather sets of her asthma (which really has been much better last few years). At dinner the other night [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/12/19/birthday-dinners-with-leungs-and-jaime/ ], Kevin told Ashley he had an old Chinese remedy. He sent it home from work with Heather… problem is, it’s in Chinese, what’s the dosage?!?! (or… WHAT IS IT?! 🙂 )

On a side note, I just about have Nightwing, Drew’s cat, trained to play fetch with a straw. I’ve decided he’s mostly puppy (as is Ashley). Last week, Courtney tested him and apparently, he prefers BLUE straws. [took a picture of both my puppies sleeping]

Birthday Dinners with Leung’s and Jaime

[pics incl] For Jeff’s & William’s birthdays, we met the Leung’s at La Fogata. This evening was not nearly as loud as the last visit. [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/10/05/birthday-dinner-with-jaime-100513/ ]

This time we were missing Courtney, but we had Monina and some spare Leung’s. 🙂 [NOTE: Courtney is at Disney World with the Goldey’s!]

If you have ever had one of Jaime’s margaritas made specially for Jeff, you will understand how funny it was to hear Jaime and Kevin try and have a conversation! Kevin tried to get Jaime to sing to Jeff, in Spanish. Jaime agreed, if Kevin joined in to sing, in Chinese. I am so glad no tabletop dancing actually occurred!
