Galveston Island is getting a new patrol boat and they are naming it the “J.H. Wyers” after Jeff Wyers [Jeff’s brother-in-law Jody’s brother..]. Google it. That is an awesome tribute and a wonderful way to remember his service to the Galveston police dept.

[pics incl] Well, we made it back from our anniversary camping trip [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2012/09/29/22nd-anniversary/]… no kids and NO CELL SERVICE (well, ok, maybe 1/2 to 1 bar for 30 seconds at 7pm each night 😉 ). We were out in a National Forest area (near a former forest fire area) and it was eerily QUIET! I took some video of our campsite for the kids to see and the loudest sound during that minute or so, is the crackling of the fire! We only had a couple of things “go wrong” on our trip off the grid: 1) as we were driving around the National Forest area on the 2nd day, we were up/down some steep BUMPY roads, and on the way back down one we had come up… we found OUR hitch in the middle of the road?!?! Needless to say, we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have dodged a million “what-if” scenarios! and 2) the heater stopped working the 2nd night. That didn’t bother Jeff so much but I was already a popsicle 😉 Fortunately, it never was too cold and we have pretty good sleeping bags. I just bundled up on one of the bunkbeds.
I took a lot of pictures, but of course, the camera never does justice to the detail of the foliage and scenery. We went hiking along some of the Colorado Trail (Google it) and yes, I felt compelled to climb a rock (for Ashley’s benefit 😉 ).
After we left, we stopped at Crossroads Pub & Grill and shared a meal with LOTS of bikers. It’s kinda become tradition ever since the 150,000 or so bikers in Galveston about 10 years ago with Karen & Duane 😉

So we may be difficult to find for our 22nd Anniversary 😉 The kids are letting us go camping without them… wish us luck! If you don’t see a future post regarding our trip… send out a search party! 🙂

I was walking with a retired neighbor and he was telling me that he tried to collect fruit and prune a tree from a ladder… and he fell and scraped his wrist. Yah, I let him have it for at least a mile!!! ;-). What’s worse is that his wife was out of town AND so were the neighbors on that side of his yard!
Hello!?! As “young” men ya’ll always insist someone spot the ladder for you, so what, retirement makes ya stupid now?!? (Yes, I can to “ya’ll” the whole lot of ya!)
As we were walking we stopped to chat with another neighbor (retirement ageish) who was looking a little disheveled and was literally brushing off the dirt while he proceeded to tell his own “fell off the ladder just now, messin’ with the gutter” story!!
I let him have it too and he explained that he would die happy in his own backyard…
UNLESS I didn’t die and then the coyotes come out and that would only bother me because they would mess up my favorite boots … Neighbor1 replied, “or the birds peck out your eyes…” In a super sweet but clearly sarcastic tone, I told them, “Oh no! I’ll make sure the coyotes and birds didn’t get ya’ll… [paused for dramatic effect] I’ll just get some fireants!” Neighbor1 replied, “OH ants… ugh, I don’t like ants” as Neighbor2 is laughing so hard, I thought he’d die laughing, then he squeezed hugged my shoulders super tight and finally caught his breathe and said “I didn’t realize you had such a wicked redneck streak in you! You’re alright!”
I made them both promise to at least tell someone (at a minimum their immediate next door neighbors) that they were bein’ an idiot. I was sure they both had fingers crossed behind their backs so I did the only honorable thing… I threatened to tell on them 😉
Let’s just be clear, if you happen to have the word “senior” in front of your citizen, you need someone to hold the ladder for ya! DEAL WITH IT!!!

Today, I drove about 100 miles (actually a bit over) without ever going more than 8 miles from my house?!?!?! Kids to/from school, ortho, school, after school activities which included homework at the mall?, popcorn delivery, youth group, yup had to get gas! Isn’t there some statistic about wrecks occurring <10 miles from home? THIS IS WHY!
My mom’s Aunt Billie passed away today. I have fond memories of her attempting to teach me to cook… alas, it’s not the instructor’s fault! She LOVED to cook and loved sharing her passion with others! I thought I had a scan of a letter she had written to me as a child (mom has the original) where she talked to me about cooking and sent me her hot dinner roll recipe, but I cannot seem to find it… mom? However, as a tribute to my Great-Aunt Billie, here is her hot roll recipe:

I randomly post quips on Facebook but recently after a post, I had several people ask me why I’m not on FB very often. My reply, “I’ve been updating MY own website a lot longer than FB has even existed… I started in 1997… FB caught up …. 2005?” I like doing things MY way 😉

Update to last update [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2012/09/04/thyroid-update/] Ultrasound (x2) was fine. The “thing” Doc felt is same anomaly discovered during last ultrasound: [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2011/09/19/thyroid-ultrasound/].
This visit was not quite as “exciting” as the previous ultrasound but I have to tell you, that several employees recognized me as the”new machine guinea pig.” Nice, I like TAZ better, just so ya know 😉
If you will remember from the last ultrasound, that they noticed irregularities and have since followed up with the surgical report and had the last ultrasound report and images on hand for reference. Whatever this is that the doctor felt, has been there all along but has no blood flow so is just a “thang.” What makes it more interesting is that apparently there are SUPPOSED to be lymph nodes in this area but I don’t have any… figures.
As usual, I actually had two complete ultrasounds which basically require me to remain upside down the entire time. They were thorough and measured carefully and compared notes with my previous ultrasounds and determined that with no blood flow and the tissue has not grown, that this is just an anatomical difference. I’m weird… but they know it 😉
…and NOW, it’s very well documented and photographed 😉
FYI… my bloodwork is back from my last appointment and it all looks good as well, the TG (Cancer tumor marker (Thyroglobulin=Tg)) is undetectable.
And, on a side note: check out this release I had to sign. Now, not only do they release info to the insurance company and employer… but “ANY GOVERNMENT AGENCY?!?!?” How is that helpful?
[pics incl] Remember when we were little and “Aunt Val” used to have us sit at a counter and roll up these “things” that I’m not even going to pretend to pronounce, much less spell! Basically, they are kolaches with meat/cheese inside. So I have told the kids about this several times and after their visit here in June, the kids wanted to try it… let the experiment begin. LOOK, I actually made something good 😉 does that count as “another thing?”

[pics incl] I was folding clothes and the cats were chasing each other all over the house. I was about to intervene, when suddenly the cats walked to the center of the room and plopped down to bathe each other. It was funny because you could tell neither wanted to GET a bath, but neither was willing to let go of the other 😉
[pics incl] If you will recall, the Kool-Aid failed to dye Heather’s hair [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2012/09/12/dont-drink-the-kool-aid/] so Debbie came back with a true blue dye… let the fun begin. Heather’s very temporary blue hair will now be, not quite permanently blue hair 😉 And, her eyebrows escaped…
But just to keep things interesting, because this is “our” house,… that pipe under the sink leaked again… only this time it was blue dye water… FUN!
