Grandma Screamed at Us
It’s not yelling. Courtney and I took Debbie’s mom on some errands and then… we needed smoothies. She said “I’ll SHOUT it”
I’m not sure about Courtney, but since I raised her… I was thinking “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!” And I gave Grandma “the look” and waited… and I “felt” Courtney waiting….
Grandma FINALLY said, “it’s not yelling, in NZ when we say I’ll shout it, we mean we will pay the bill.” She was wanted to repay us for the errand.
AND OH HOW I WISH I HAD VIDEO… of Courtney pushing & shoving Grandma out of the way from the register and all the while yelling “do NOT let her pay you ANYTHING!!!”
Grandma actually said “Jeepers!” and laughing & grumbling that ” it’s amazing how something so small can be so…” Yes.. the word you are looking for is…???!!!
Yes, all those words you said while laughing… and since I cannot understand NZ accents when they are laughing… we ALL just laughed at them. and by ALL, I mean EVERYONE there. it was a scene… an hysterically funny scene. AND OH HOW I WISH I HAD VIDEO.
So… it was actually Courtney doing the shouting … all of it literally, as she paid the bill too 😉
I’m still laughing.
[NOTE EDIT: I’ve been corrected, it’s “shout” not “scream” but doesn’t matter, my brain still “heard” her say “I scream for ice cream!”
but Carolyn (aka Grandma) said “Ps phrase is ‘my shout’. A scream is when something is very funny. Come to think of it both phrases worked for that.”]
Remembering Josh
Today, we said our farewells to Joshua Hetherington. I think he’d be pleased to know that he was well represented by his Ft Carson Army unit. 🙂 Debbie & Tony & Grandma told some fabulous anecdotes about his life and shared so great photos. She posted a few http://team-josh.com/index.php/2017/03/22/mar-21/
Any donations will be collected and presented to the foundation that researchs his type of brain cancer (she told me but I cannot remember the name… ugh, sorry) https://www.gofundme.com/team-josh
NOTE EDIT : Later we ALL went out for dinner and a couple of their friends that they’ve know since Josh was little had flown in, so they joined us… and we grabbed Roni too. No pix (grrr, I meant to) but great company!
Some Stuff was Done
[pics incl] The grill died a while back but now it’s been so nice, we NEED a grill. I went outside and found one in pieces out front 😉

After a bit, it strolled through the house on its way to “work.”

And they were very pleased the new Keurig arrived, and I truly believe that helped facilitate all the work this week! And just in time for Heather “the serious” coffee drinker.
We also FINISHED the quick “mini update” of the bathroom before she arrives (Jeff will be flying out & they are driving back next week).

Courtney & Ashley bought lots of “organization” stuff but I was amused the it was William that ended up assembling the pieces. 🙂

Josh in NZ News
I find it comforting to know that his story is being told in NZ. Personally, I think he’d do that sheepish grin & really enjoy this!
and another NZ paper now too. Debbie agrees that he’d enjoy this
http://m.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11820951
While it must be…? strange? to see these stories in print, I hope they bring tears of joy too.

Heartbroken
Josh has passed away. Our hearts are broken. While we know he’s no longer in pain, There are no words.
Debbie posted this:
Our hearts broke in an unrepairable way this morning. At 7.19am to be exact. Joshua has found peace at last. Fly, Little Boy, Fly.
She also talked about today being Pi Day and it made me smile because our kids too… love Pi Day:
Debbie posted: Joshua lost his battle against this horrible disease today. He would be quite tickled to know today is Pi Day – he was a meme fiend to the end. There is so much to say, but my broken heart just can’t quite find the words yet. It’s all too fresh. Thank you ALL for your support through the thick and now the thin.
If youd like to help:

[pics incl] OK, I deserve this. They put laser on my head, made me close my eyes,… did mention Ashley was in the room…
The entire point of the laser-head-thing, is to allow me to “get me bearings” on a target on the wall and then close my eyes, move my head around and see if I can “put it back” w/ out looking.

It Might Be Time to Paint a BathroomÂ
[pics incl] It’s one of those things that started out as something else, like replacing the shower vent.

and “Hey, I should paint that cabinet while we are…” Yeah, ya’ll know me, but USUALLY, it’s me doing most of the stuff and this time it is me just thinking I can… I figured I could sit on the floor and paint the cabinet… maybe.
I require assistance. It takes me 10x longer…. ugh. The kitchen is now “the door & drawer zone.”

But… I’m working on paintin’ 🙂 All the “other stuff” was Jeff, NOT me! Ha!

Visiting Josh
[pics incl] Yesterday, Tony & Debbie made the difficult decision to move Josh in an inpatient Hospice center. Tonight, Jeff took the boys up to visit, in one car. Grandma & I waited on the “mealtrain” to be delivered so we could take food to Deb & Tony. Ah, Katie was tonight’s “server” and she arrived with a scrumptious roast, which needed carving… taking one look at me she starts to tell Grandma that “she’s not allowed to handle knives” when she remembers a funny story…
Grandma cut her finger on a knife the other night and has stitches. [obviously we are related] Clearly, Katie cannot leave this “in our care.”
Josh and the boys had a nice visit and once we arrived he was resting again. They all went to eat and Josh awakened to see me there instead. We chatted for a few minutes. It was nice that he was able to visit with the boys for while. Josh & William exchanged fist-bumps and Will told him we’d return tomorrow.
[NOTE UPDATE: On Saturday, William & I went up w/ Grandma again. He had some visitors in the morning and was pretty tired so we really weren’t expecting him to awaken.
At one POINT, Debbie was showing us some booties she was knitting. I asked if they were baby booties, which started a chain reaction: “well, no, I am following this pattern…” But seriously, I’m looking at these and I just can’t “not” say anything… “But they do look like they could be baby booties? or Courtney booties?” Now I’ve done it… we all agree, THEY DO look like Courtney booties 🙂
While we were laughing about this “booties conundrum” Josh woke, looked at me “Oh hey Theresa, is William here?” He quickly stepped back inside to Josh’s side and they exchanged some “hey buddy” before Josh dozed off again.
Do You Hear an Echo?
[pics incl] I have heard some very funny stories from people with Echos (or similar home electronic devices). I shared ours and had to explain “She Who Shall NOT Be Named” Then… this appears
… can’t. stop. laughing.

How Do You Help Friends Wait
I don’t know, this is not one of my blog posts where I explain it. Debbie posted about Josh’s rough night: http://team-josh.com/ AND she also posted some of the amazingly fun & quirky photos about #teamjosh
I cannot think of the word that I want to describe her: extraordinary. I only know one other person like her. She is sharing this experience with “us” AS it is happening, not afterwards. Not through rose colored glasses either, you’re seeing snippets into their life.
Right now they are waiting. Waiting for this sweet, gentle, soul… to get his wings. Waiting. How do you help friends wait?
Like I said, this is not one of those posts where I explain it.
prayers & hugs. we love ya’ll

[NOTE UPDATE Spoke w/ Debbie and they may need to move Josh to the Hospice facility tomorrow or soon .]
Neuro 03/08/17
This appointment was w/ neuro vascular and he is now my PRIMARY. [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2017/02/15/neuro-021517/] After seeing him last time [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2017/02/14/neuro-vascular-021417/], we discussed my/our idea of a meds “reset”
He reviewed the test results from neuro-psych and we all (Jeff & I) discussed a lot of what I wrote in THIS blog post [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2017/02/21/neuro-psych-results-022117/] YOU keep in mind that the neuro-psych results were NOT in layman’s terms, they were written for him. [these really aren’t in any particular order, I’m just trying to “remembering” from my notes cuz Jeff didn’t txt me his]
- He was all for a “meds holiday” but we can’t realistically do ALL the meds. He listened to us, I read him some “notes from my blog” and showed him the “migraine coach” app again. He selected the TWO he thought would fit the “we hate these the most,” “they really don’t do TOO much for you”… “take more Benadryl if your sleep gets skewed” [see those previous posts]
- 1) it’s clear between the MRI(s) & neuro-psych that I have damage to language center of my brain HOWEVER, neuro-psych put a caveat that all of these meds, namely TOPIRAMATE [aka Topimax], might have possibly skewed some results.
- 1a) a second HOWEVER… he said… and he lost me so he had to use “baby words” here… that topiramate would probably cause sporadic spikes in language not long-term… Jeff pointed out my long-term use and “other Dr” unwilling to get off
- SOOO… the two we are “weaning off” are topiramate and amitriptyline (this is the one w/ the “stay out of the sun” warning stamped on the bottle—he didn’t know about this)
If I react badly… in the next few weeks, well…
- keep going to PT
- I think he was fine w/ how I’ve been figuring out my own… kinda pain management in the “crisis mode” He’s right now “one thing at a time” and he wants to focus on this bazillion lines of meds I have.
…otherwise, follow-up in about 6wks. Will keep ya posted, Wish me luck!

PT Prank
When we were finished w/ PT, I sat up & he asked me how I felt, I abruptly & suddenly decided that I felt dizzy & I was gonna lie down. Ashley burst out laughing. Yes, that’s exactly what my face must’ve looked like [the “I feel dizzy & I better lie down quick” face] but she also knew that he was lowering the massage table at the exact same moment… He just didn’t get a chance to tell me. She could also see HIS face… and that just made her laugh harder. [Let pause a moment and refer you to the index on Ashley’s laugh: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2014/02/15/laughing-luge/]
In “our family”… you are rewarded for this type of behavior… in front of your boss.
One point PT guy! awesome “accidental” prank!
