Well, the candid of this one had Ashley’s hair in front of his perfectly readable “oh my gosh, get her off me!” look… He very patiently sat through several more takes, but alas… he would only give me the “are we done yet?” look…. imagine Ashley’s evil laugh along with that ;-P

We were telling Ashley and William about this place and how, as expected, “it was clearly full of teenage boys.” I said that someone had done their homework because it is located in the same building as a dance/ballet studio for girls. vWithout skipping a beat, William said, “Also probably full of teenage boys…” HA! We haven’t even been inside yet, but that comment sparked an entire conversation of suggesting a glass wall between the two…. 🙂

[pics incl] Yesterday was Kevin’s birthday so we planned to take the Leung’s to La Fogata (since last time they took us to Chinese New Year: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2015/02/20/chinese-new-year-dinner-with-leungs/ ). As usual, dinner was full of interesting conversations where we are still learning to translate each other’s humor. Among the discussions included, was my allergic reaction to the last meal out. Tonight, Kevin has ordered Ashley’s favorite meal, Copa Para 7 Mares “Soup of the 7 Seas.” We decided he should NOT sit directly across from me, so after we took photos, he switched seats with Shirley and sat across from Jeff.
We actually stopped by La Fogata on Thursday to celebrate Ashley’s college acceptance [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2015/03/05/ashleys-college-acceptance-letter/], but Jaime had left early, so tonight we re-celebrated with the Leung’s and Jaime! We secretly told Jaime about Kevin’s birthday and they properly snuck up behind him and began singing!
Somewhere along the lines, it came up that Ashley should be considered on of the Leung’s daughters (so at work, she can say she IS related to the owners 😉 ). She promptly started calling Kevin “My Other Father” and Kevin was thrilled… Little did he know that this is a reference to the book “Coroline” and is NOT a compliment 😉 So I suggested that she call Shirley “Mommy, Dearest!” During the laughing of these endearing insults, Kevin sprayed his crab legs all across the table at Jeff! Which just made the laughing worse! Jaime decided to “help” by bringing Jeff and Kevin shots of tequila. Ashley brought up the last time Kevin and Jaime were together, that there was threats of singing and table dancing [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/12/19/birthday-dinners-with-leungs-and-jaime/ ] Fortunately, tonight, they left all that out and settled on Jeff trying to teach Kevin to speak with a Texas accent….. [pics incl] We were running an errand tonight before dinner out with friends. Ashley is dressed in heels; platform heels (there is actually a couple of inches between her feet and the soles of her shoes) … and skipping; skipping in platform high heels. William had “this look on his face” and I know the feeling! As I was telling William that “I know exactly how you feel,” Ashley, simultaneously asked William “Have you ever tried on heels?” In the meantime, William began a commentary on how he thinks he knows HOW she is doing it, while Jeff is quietly chanting “Please, say NO. Please say NO!” It took a moment for William to finish speaking and answer Ashley “No!” but I think Jeff thought it felt like a eon! I made them let me take a picture of their shoes so I could remember this conversation 😉

[pics incl] Some of you may not realize that Ashley decided she wanted to attend University of Colorado-Denver, before Courtney discovered that they have a Beijing program. Ashley hasn’t papered all the schools with applications because she toured them all with us when we were looking with Heather and Courtney. She received her acceptance letter to UCD and is excited and relieved to be done with that process! 😉 VERY PROUD PARENTS!

Several days ago I had a twinge in my lower right side, nothing extreme, but enough that I asked Jeff, “Can your appendix grow back?” Last night, that pain went from a twinge, to buckling me over in pain and tears, (Jeff and William are out of town) so Ashley went with me to urgent care this morning. Considering that I had my appendix removed in 1989, it’s highly unlikely that I have appendicitis. HOWEVER, the doctor took one look at me and said, “If this were ANYONE ELSE, I’d say that your appendix cannot grow back, but since it’s YOU, I think you need to have an ultrasound by a specialist.” Ashley is hoping it is my appendix because she would like to write a paper on this particular topic. 🙂
It’s more likely it’s an ovarian cyst. While this subject is usually considered personal and private, a stigma to discuss, I thought about it and most of you have been on this journey with me for ages and it’s not something that I would “keep secret.” This is part of the deal, weird medical issues for me. Besides, most of ya’ll are family… And this is the place I document my life… for me and you. [And NO… I’m not pregnant 😉 Trust me… I know. I was talked out of “sharing” personal details on my blog once before… but if you know what to look for the proof is here. the word you are looking for is “other changes” 😉 ]
Considering that either of these (appendicitis or cyst), would create all sorts of additional issues if they were to rupture (i.e. would they ever stop bleeding because I take Xarelto??), I am currently waiting for “pre-authorization” with my insurance, for an ultrasound within the next couple of days. Hopefully, I will know more on Wednesday? Thursday? Of course, if anything worsens, a trip to the ER will be in order.
[NOTE added 03/11/15: I had the ultrasound(s) today. As you know, technicians are never allowed to discuss, and this was no different. However, I have had 100’s of ultrasounds so I can clearly self-diagnose that it appeared to me to be a cyst, that has not ruptured at this time, but I’m not efficient enough to distinguish if that is actually a tumor or a cyst or something completely else. The technician did go out of her way to see if I have an appendix in “her her area of scope” for Ashley’s benefit. No appendix was found at this time 😉 The diagnostic center should send the results to my doctor sometime Thursday, and hopefully, I will know “something” by the end of Friday. I’ll keep ya posted. As before, if anything worsens, a trip to the ER will follow. At this point, walking and standing do not seem to bother me at all. Driving, bending, and stairs get me attention, so I limit that, otherwise, business as usual.]

The past several weeks have been full of surprise phone calls/txts from long lost cousins and friends. I appreciate so much the effort ya’ll are making to help me get back in touch and keep in touch. THANK YOU! I’m still working on sending out cards, I’ve done many but still have many to go, thanks for your understanding. This time I started with some of the farthest away and working my way back.
Yes, Heather found a job near their apartment. Ya’ll should harass her for blog updates! 😉 and tell her to call her mom!
I’ve only worked a few times (5-6) at Magic Rabbit, but I figure once this snowy weather subsides, I’ll have a better idea of whether I am truly up to the task. I know I make mistakes (at least I have caught a few) but I have a very forgiving boss. 🙂
