Jim Visits 07/24/16

[pics incl] Jim appeared.  Three years IS WAY TOO LONG FOR LONG LOST CHILDREN…. hint, hint… there’s another one out there…..

We planned to grill out, so of course, the grill stopped working.  Pretty sure this is unrelated to the wasp nest 😉 [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2016/07/24/holy-giant-wasp-batman/ ]

Plan B was to pull the grill out of the camper, I did nothing 😉  Jeff was in charge of grilled pineapple chicken avocado.  Will fixed up one of his famous fruit ball salads and Jim chipped in by opening the can of corn 😉 like I said, I did nothing!

I’ve been trying to be good about walking but I require supervision 😉 since I had a housefull of candidates, I suggested we takeour  visit for a walk.  Courtney needed this to be a Poke-hunt but after our escapade last night, she insisted that we DRIVE to the park and then walk around at the park…. I’m not entirely convinced that “there is construction along the way” wasn’t actually code for “I’d rather take “Dennis the Menace” on that walk, instead of mom! she took pictures of everything”

William grabbed the keys…. which made the rest of us pause.  I INSISTED on two things 1) the “new driver” magnet on the back and 2) and one last group selfie

Clearly, I suck at group selfies 😉

Had some GREAT cloud colors tonight!

Will and Courtney bailed on us.  While on or walk, kids would run up or screech up on bikes and ask “have you caught/seen the snarkalax (or Snorolax or something)?!”  Ummmm?!  I just pointed across the firld, “go ask the boy in orange, he’s playing”  Every once in a while, I’d admit “I just started playing.” and every kid would yell over their shoulder “GOOD LUCK!”

After a while Jeff and Jim walked off one way but I had found Courtney and William and we were still following a loop around.  Next thing we hear Jim from the center of the soccer field “William! We found it!” He starts to head up there and Courtney says “Here, take my phone, too” I’m like “To what? they aren’t playing so they cannot have found anything?!”  Whoosh!  Half dozen kids ride past on their bikes and more are running toward us from the opposite side….  William punched them both for all Poke-hunters present.  “Touché Jim & Jeff”

Holy Giant Wasp, Batman!

[pics incl  There is a nest in our grill, one flew up into the girls’ bathroom window.  I’d like to point out, that I took the screen off to fix it.  This wasp is currently between the glass panes.  If you don’t hear from William again…

The battle between wasp and teenage boy has been fought 😛

AND…. I’ve repaired & reinstalled the screen.

Shhh We’re Hunting Pokemon

[pics incl]  ok im on a Pokemon hunt, w/ supervision

I found Linda & Willy again 😉 can I count the time at Camping World as “practice?” [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2016/07/14/hanging-out-with-shelbi-071416/ ]

and a double rainbow

We walked over to Dazbog… they’re closed 🙁  Explain how this Pokemon hunt works?  I found a windmill?

DUDE! there are scavenger hunt instructions.  I mean, its not Pokemon Go instructions so I’ll get lost but……

i found Nico & Sam and despite what my kids said, they dont think its uncool to hug me!

Ummm, while this is a really cool view, im now 4.78 miles into my 1/2 mile stroll i started to help kick in my meds… [see previous blog where i hollered @ Steve about his ladder]… and NOW… its raining… and we are about 1 1/2 miles from the house under a nice comfy pavillion with a half dozen other fellow pokemon hunters ;-P

Jeff is our hero! and the evening rainbow i took IN THE RAIN, while on the phone w/ Neil 🙂

Our Ladder Walked Down the Street

[pics imcl]  I was walking (no not chasing Pokemon, cuz I cant do that w/out superviosion HA!)… simce I was alome, I was just slow looping the street in fromt on my house and I pretty much DISAPPROVED that Steve was reaching over his head on his ladder… grrr. While I didnt give him my standard “neighbor lecture [ see here:  http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2012/09/27/old-men-should-not-climb-ladders/],” I did offer him a better stabilizing ladder & teenage boy!

MUCH better now, carry on Steve. 🙂

Kudos to Will for being abruptly volunteered for “helping a neighbor.”  I hear he was out pruning Ms. Priscilla’s trees this week FROM IN THE TREE… yes, better him, than you! 😝 But you could snap me some “blog pics”

Chandler Called Me Dory

[pics incl]  Funny thing happened at dinner.  Jeff talked me into going out to eat with a couple of vendors, so there were just the four of us.  Believe it or not, I actually kinda sorta knew one of them BC (before clot), well, I recognized her name anyway.  He worked with one of them previously at Lockheed.  Small world eh?

Anyway, I was explaining to the other guy about the brain clot & memory loss, when the waiter chimed in telling us about his adventures in memory loss.  At some point in our conversation he asked if people call me “Dory” to which Jeff just died laughing and promised that “they do now!” [so I’m helping that right along]

If you happen to be at the restaurant near Centennial airport, The Perfect Landing, ask for our waiter, Chandler and tell him Jaime Kim’s friend “Dory” sent ya!  HE WAS FABULOUS!

Gratuitous food pics 😛

I’ve been for lunch before, but never dinner.  The view of the mountain sunset is spectacular.  There was a storm tonight which was pretty cool to watch move along the front range.  [You know the world has changed when every phone in the room goes off at the same time w/ the sound of the emergency broadcast beep of severe weather]!

[NOTE:  I’m gettin’ the “how the heck did you  remember the waiter’s name”  Well, I DIDN’T!  I was that flat out “rude txt’r at dinner, I opened my blog, asked his name, and typed this title because I KNEW… it was ‘blogworthy’  & ‘blogable’ … those are sometimes separate entities ;-P ]

Walking in the Rain

[pics incl]  or not?  Will & I walked up to Wendy’s.  It was bright, sunny 84.  While we were there, it suddenly rained, but stopped almost immediately and dried instantly.  Ok, I’ll take that, we were walking in the “rain” but not really 😉  I stopped at the corner and snapped some pictures because it was bright blue skies, so you’d almost never know a storm had just breezed through!

Oops, well, maybe we were destinened to actually walk IN THE RAIN after all.  a few minutes after taking these photose it started raining again?!? See the bright blue “not a cloud in the sky” sky?!?  We made it to Burleigh’s and Patty’s and hung out with them for a bit… Thanks for the hospitality!

Courtney and the Cops

[pics incl]  How many cops does it take to teach Courtney how to open the gas tank on the Audi?  Apparently 4, because the first 3 couldn’t figure it out either.  Right now, Claudia is my “FAVORITE” child for stepping back and snapping a pic!!!!

Obviously, the last few times “Courtney” has put gas in the car, Ashley must’ve been with her…… Ashley knows how, she WORKS at a gas station! [FYI, Magic Rabbit Car Wash in Highlands Ranch has Conoco gas and also does oil changes.  Ashley works on that side, I usually work on the “car wash” side and so did Courtney]

Hanging Out with Shelbi 07/14/16

[pics incl]  Today, l’il miss Sadie May decided that she needed mac&cheese for lunch… and then again for dinner 🙂 Well, OK!  There’s a very good reason why I was hanging out with a VERY pregnant Shelbi all day.  William was taking his driver’s ed class and test down in Colorado Springs today.  All the courses by us were booked up and have had months long wait lists, but there was one right by Shelbi & Andrew 🙂

BTW, he passed, and that is his strawberry lemonade 🙂 So no, we aren’t feeding the baby alcoholic beverages!

A funny thing today :  Will & I went to Camping World before his class and ran into one of our neighbors! Linda & Willy were hanging out down at Camping World too 🙂

[NOTE:  SHE’s HERE!!! 07/19/16 6 lbs, 15 1/2 oz. 19 1/4 inches ]

Neurology Appointment 07/13/2016

We had a lot to discuss today regarding head pain, arm swelling, whether or not to stay on xarelto, which meds to take now, etc.

1) regarding her thoughts on Xarelto:  She spoke to the neuro-surgeons (same group, not necessarily same docs, that performed my original surgeries) to see what their thoughts are regarding whether or not I should remain on Xarelto (or any anti-coagulant) and they thought [i’m paraphrasing] “I should discontinue, if bloodtests confirm the lupus anticoagulant has dissipated AND the hematologist recommends getting off.”  I think she has the same concerns as I do about the Xarelto making the lupus anti-coagulant test unreliable.  I said that I am willing to “do the shots in the stomach again if needed, to preform that test again.”  FYI, the neuro-surgeons basically said that if the clot didn’t clear after 6mo, it was not likely to ever clear.  The only reason to continue taking the anti-coagulant is for the lupus-anticoagulant disorder but if there is no sign of that… then Xarelto would NOT be a choice to take.

2) regarding the random crazy head pain:  I’ve tracked this on/off.  I’ve chatted w/ many of you on/off and had many excellent suggestions/ideas.  She thinks maybe the severe pain is more migraine related, not clot related.  I don’t disagree, except that doesn’t explain the crazy swelling and cold my arm does.  So, let’s remove that and discuss later.  Assuming that the clot is causing some blockages that do create some pressure affected by weather.  And weather can be a severe migraine trigger.  we are going to proceed as if I am having severe migraines.  I feel like I’ve come full circle 😉  I used to get these as a kid!  So right now, we are gonna keep me on the same meds but increase the dosage just a little, see what happens.  [oh wait… somewhere in here between appointments, I STOPPED taking the extended release (XR) version… THAT was a VERY BAD combination.  so I’ve just been taking regular topiramate]  Last time I increased the dosage, I couldn’t tolerate it and we tried an XR.  We are just trying to get a baseline again… I think.  If this doesn’t work, there are other migraine meds to try.  [last weather episode]

2b) there is a possible other migraine trigger here that could be hormonal cuz I’m not a spring chick anymore 😉  But I still clearly have issues.  I’ll be attempting to track all my head pain days & symptoms just in case it’s not just the weather!

3) regarding the crazy “white & cold” arm thing and severe swelling in my neck: no one knows what this is.  The MRI’s show that my jugular is still blocked so clearly the blood is going out the back of my head somehow and this has to be related.  SOOOO… if/when this ever happens again, I am to proceed to the nearest ER and get an ultrasound of my head/neck/arm WHILE this is going on, so maybe we can get some more information.  [this is of course, going with the assumption that that bullet point #2 is migraine induced pain from weather]

previous doctor visits:  http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2016/04/13/doctors-visits-041116-041316/

more random information regarding these latest appointments:

notes of the data I have:  I have lots of lists of just about everything but they are not all necessarily combined.  I have had many of these “notes” and “apps” since my Palm days, so longterm data 😉  Yes, some of the apps merge with the Apple HealthData App but not all and some are just my own notes or “things” I created.  So I will just start doing it all manually, probably into the Apple Health app just to have a central place.  I “have the data”… just getting it together is cumbersome 😉  if ya’ll have any app suggestions… I’m all ears.

notes on the neuro: She’s been late, like TODAY, but it’s not the first time and when I’ve asked before if she’s been making rounds, she’s laughed and made comments like, “no I was helping my daughter.”  she should’ve lied to me.  She’s cancelled.  It’s a PAIN to call the office, let me count the ways!  and I just don’t think “we click” and I’ve felt this way since “day 1” and I’ve always said that a lot about going to a doctor is just personality.  This does NOT make her a bad doctor, she did go to school 😉 she does have a degree hanging on her wall and she does call specialists, so I do trust her judgement.  To a point.  I’m kinda getting “irritated” that she has been suggesting “the cold thing my arm does” might be anxiety.  I finally was like “look, I was asleep!  I woke up because I had this cold, ash-white slab of meat lying next to me that I cannot shake off and my neck is swollen like a baby turtle is sitting on it.  Please explain to me how I am suddenly having “anxiety” IN MY SLEEP causing these symptoms, that a HOT shower cannot resolve?”     [Ya know, I’ve always heard that it’s usually male doctors telling women it’s anxiety…?!  I’ve never in my life had a doctor suggest that “it’s me”?! even when I’ll be the first to admit I thought I was being a hypochondriac! and I’ve never been diagnosed with anxiety before.  I’m not saying that having a brain clot can’t suddenly cause anxiety but ya know what… that still doesn’t answer my question above….?!  so I’m all for getting your recommendations for other neurosurgeons]

notes on the hematologist:  he seems ok but SUPER busy.  he’s a spceialist for cancer patients, so ALL of his patients are the tricky ones that require extra effort… including me.  Only “I” am not on a ticking-clock and I have told him so.  I have told him that if he needs to take a call during my appointment… or whatever… to just go right ahead and do it.  At first, I felt like he really didn’t know what to do with me.  The OTHER hematologist KNEW what to do with me, but he left.  He had also suggested getting me off of Xarelto at some point and he had mentioned that the Lupus anticoagulant could suddonly disappear just like it appeared. SOOO, now that this doctor is suggesting I get off Xarelto, it’s not a surprise, I just want to be thorough.  Maybe doing the shots in stomach is UNnecceary… any suggestions from ya’ll would be welcome.  THIS hematologist has been frustrated that my current neurologist has not returned ANY of his calls.  I asked him for a recceomendation and he gave me one.  He also thinks its an excellent idea that I should get a second opinion.  I told him I was frustrated as well and talk about this and he assured me that anxiety is NOT the cause and kinda pleaded with me to get a second opinion because she NEVER returns his calls.

on the “cold slab of meat lying next to me” comment… I hear ya… and NO… ;-P

[NOTE UPDATE: UGH… GRRR… SOOO, after my neuro appointment this morning, I discovered that the recommendation that the hematologist gave me is one that SHE has talked to and I think may have been on the “team” that she was talking to above.  I’m waiting to hear back from that office to see if it’s the same group.  There are pros and cons to that situation.  I’m not sure which is better…  I did get another recommendation from one of my other doctors as well….]

Admiring the Falcon (and other wildlife)

[pics incl]  Will & I were standing outside near our car, when we spotted this falcon.

It’s at the top of the pine

It’s lived here a good long while.  So has the owl family 🙂 [I think the owls have lived here longer than we have]!  This past couple months, our neighborhood has been visited by a couple bobcats, and a baby bear (which probably means momma bear has been nearby!)  It’s awesome to see all the photos everyone shares!  or like me, sometimes, a photo cannot be snapped but a good story is sometimes shared ;-P
NONE OF THESE OTHER WERE TAKEN BY ME, but thought ya’ll would like to see… These were all shared by some of the awesome folks in our neighborhood “we call family.”  I think the bobcats were from Lewis’ and baby bear from Schroth.

I came near face-face w/ one of the bobcat the other day, trying to figure out whose dog it was 😉 when “it clicked”… “that’s not a dog…..”  I don’t love ya’ll enough to turn my back on a cat that’s bigger than me to take a pic…

Hematology Appt 07/11/2016

[pics incl]  I have a long list of results from all the bloodwork from 06/05/16, I’m not typing, I took a pic!  Jeff couldn’t attend so it rolled downhill and fell to William 🙂

He said it all looks normal now (and I asked lots of questions about what that is defined as and by whom!) and it appears as if I no longer have the need to take the anti-coagulant but we are still just in a “wait and see mode” until I see and talk to neurologist.
