The Surprise Dinner

[pics incl]  We had reservations for dinner tonight and there was a lot of whining because “The Jungle Book” got 100% on rotten tomatoes!  No we can’t reschedule and you can just go see it tomorrow.

But first, I picked up William from school and had one of his sister’s in the backseat.  Aiden climbed in back and gave me confused look, I just raised my finger as in “shush” and smiled at him.  William hopped in front, made a comment about having an AWFUL day ….”…did you get a new phone?” “No, someone left their phone in the seat.” “whose phone, THIS, is a cool phone?!” and from the back “it’s my phone, can you hand it to me?”  “what? WHAT?! When? HOW? WHAT?! MY DAY IS SO MUCH BETTER!”

Me:”By the way Aiden, meet Heather, William’s oldest sister.”

So now ONE kid knows… two to go.  We three are getting ready for dinner and the others will meet us at La Fogata.

We are conspiring, trying to figure best how to surprise Courtney and Ashley.  They arrived first so we had to stagger ours.  I walked in and immediately they didn’t understand why we couldn’t have done this another night, clearly IGNORING the 6th chair next to Ashley.  Heather quickly walked behind their backs, sat next to her and screaming commenced.

Psst, Courtney, Heather can take you to see Jungle Book 😉

Jaime was pleased to see her too and made us promise to bring in Drew… OF COURSE!

How’s That Ice Cream

I tried to take a bite of her ice cream and she jerked it away, refusing to share.  “I want to know if this flavor is any good so to just march back over here and let me try it since I’ve already been sharing drinks with you today!”  [there was concern about illness going around] “No! It’s not good.”  William said, “You’re just saying that because you don’t want to share.”

“I am not, it tastes frozen!”

She’s got us on that one.

This is how blondes got their smarts….  She only LOOKS 12!!!

There Are Those Other Bloggers

Ya know, my blog tells me that there are about 200 registered users (which I don’t believe 😉 ) AND then I’ll get emails from you and I have to believe…

and I know there are random strays that are friends of my family or prayer groups and I know you exist, every once in a while one of ya’ll will get me a message
and then there are those accidental stalkers…. haha!

BUT THIS, is about YOU.  You other bloggers, because I do remember now and then to stumble across your blogs again (unless I have them linked to mine, then I actually read them fairly regularly).  If you do/do NOT want your blog linked to mine holler.

Well, I rambled.

I just want to give a shout out to the budding chefs, the explorers, the ones whom don’t realize how wonderful they write because they are way too focused on WHO they are writing for, the students prparing for college, the students preparing to LEAVE college… all those other bloggers, that I TRY to remember to read… FEEL FREE TO REMIND ME (or add my email to your list)!

Snow 04/16/16

[pics incl]  I txt everyone last night w/ this photo and said

“Winter is Coming!”

04/15/16 16:09 MT

This morning, snow is here.  Amounts will be hard to SEE because snow is soooo wet and wind is really blowing.  I’ll let the pros determine actual totals.

04/15/16 06:56 MT

04/15/16 06:57 MT

04/16/16 09:00pm MT

04/16/16 23:59 MT

Anyone wanna go camping?

04/17/16 10:24am MT

Ya’ll asked me about the roads.  IF they have been plowed, they are clear, stay clear.  You have to watch for run off, quick rushing water and re-refreeze or black ice but they are clear with any sun.

When I was little, we had a HUGE blizzard  in Indiana 78? 79? and it flooded in Texas later that summer.  I was always convinced the snow melted and ran south.  It’s flooding in Texas right now……  Ya’ll be safe!

Neuro changing up dosages /tweaking again because sleep has left the building!  She doesnt want to change xarelto while tweaking other mrds.

Today Is One Of THOSE Days

[pics incl] Anyone with kids has had “one of those days” where it just kind of starts off wrong and gets worse….  Today exploded into a “comedy of sorts”  It all started with a bug bite on Courtney’s hand…. or so we thought.  It’s not the first time she’s had crazy swelling and I react the same way but THIS time… it’s a bit huge so when she walked in at 7:30 am and asked Jeff “at what point should I be worried…?” he took her straight to Urgent Care.  I was driving William to school and Ashley still had class so I swung by and grabbed her… but then there was that “lawn care appointment.”  I had yet to see THIS photo (or Courtney’s hand) so when Jeff said Courtney had a bug bite, I said “Courtney is an ADULT.  Leave her at the Urgent Care and go meet the lawn guy”  Oh, stop growling at me, she only LOOKS 12 and she IS an ADULT and Urgent Care is like 1.1 miles from our house 😉 and I was 2 minutes from the urgent care when I said it 😉  So “we switched places.”

They called Courtney’s name. It went something like this: “Need me to go back with you?” “Nah, it’s just a bug bite…” “…and you’re an adult?” “and there’s that” (actually, I think she waved at me in agreement)

img_0601.jpg

It was ALL DOWNHILL from there.  They promptly told her that the might have a staph infection (well, after seeing the specialist later THEY WEREN’T necessarily wrong, apparently MRSA presents itself looking like a bug bite… just like this photo!!!)  They gave her an antibiotic shot (one doubles for staph) and had x-rays of her hand and somewhere in here MY NAME was called to go to the back 😉 because some of the stuff they told her “required a more adultier adult” but then they took one look at me and realized… (yes… the same Urgent Care place as “my brain thing” so they clearly need to run away!) I’m not necessarily the adult here so we discussed “oh HOW ARE YOU doing?”  After they explained to us that this was possibly into her knuckles, they had talked to a specialist and he wanted to see her in the afternoon.  In the meantime, they drew a marker around the swelling, told her to go to ER if it got worse and wrapped her hand.

Good, because I actually have a doctor appointment in an hour… somewhere else 😉  It’s at my hematologist and they attempted to draw blood, the usual 3 stick attempt, so by the time they were done with me, both my hands were wrapped… LOOK we match!

img_0607.jpg

Courtney commented that “this is NOT how today was supposed to go, I have class, I have things I need to do.”  I said, “welcome to adulthood.”  There was some whining to which I responded with the, switching off to take Ashley to class and changing of the guard at the doctor and the lawn guy and the working from home “just in case” the specialist took longer because someone had to do carpool for William… “would you rather ‘Parenthood?’ ” 😆
img_0605.jpg

UPDATE:  The hand specialist saw Courtney, agreed that it “could” have been staph/MRSA but since they had given her a shot already, any bloodwork now is pointless.  He was sure it was a severe infection regardless and wanted her on oral antibiotic as well and went ahead and made sure it was one that would work with MRSA (just in case).  While we were there, the red & swelling was well past the marker lines they had drawn but he was only slightly concerned and said it should start going down soon BUT, if it didn’t to go to ER (and call him).  He wants to hear from her Thursday.

NOTE UPDATE:  36 hours later, the RED has gone way down to just the center of her hand.  it’s still pretty swollen (hard to see in photos but it is).  Just imagine it being bright red OUTSIDE that marker line!?!

Last week several different people asked me “How long has it been?”

Wow, how long has it been since a headache… that wasn’t a headache changed my life?! [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2015/04/08/two-years-ago/ ]

After consulting with Jeff and the others, I realized that THE three year”mark” was approaching.  I started wondering, had I created a list of things to do, no, NOT a bucket list, just, “things” I’d like to do… maybe “be able to do again.”

Knowing me, “the keeper of lists,” I figured I had one… somewhere….  took a bit of thinking about “if I had a list, where would I put it” but VIOLA!

I found this list of things… just notes and thoughts that I had taken the time to jot down a year ago (and then I have clearly promptly forgotten about).

Looking at my list:  I’m pleased that I was able to “do again” some things that the “stroke” part of the clot has made difficult… for example, for our anniversary, Jeff and I went camping AND went hiking around a bit.  [the old ‘in shape me’ could’ve hiked/biked/ran/climb anytime-anywhere-anything ]  Jeff ended up carrying my pack at the end, but some hiking was done by me!

I still cannot do 10 push-ups.

[I hear ya, rolling your eyes… I DO TO … KNOW …  HOW … to do push-ups!  Real push-ups, the correct way!  In a former life, I took both “Fitness & Conditioning” AND “Running” at A&M … FOR A GRADE… because I knew it’d be easy A’s]

BUT, I guess I didn’t realize I had written push-ups  down … sometimes my left arm and/or brain won’t let me do ANY push-ups.  BUT, I have gone from ZERO to 9… on my knees.  They are proper form, but I still need the knees to brace my neck.  NO WHERE NEAR the world of “A&M for a grade” but on the flip side it’s NO WHERE NEAR the “ZERO cuz I had a stroke”… so YAY me, I can do NINE push-ups on my knees and I am thrilled!

but I have “mostly” reached my goal of getting healthy/in-shape.  There are so many health/workout “plans” or thoughts or suggestions to follow so I kinda just followed them ALL:  for my gender/height/age I reached healthy weight; BMI; Sleep; BP; lean vs. fat; body fat%; and strength training.  I have a teensy more to go on body fat%,  BUT still a ways to go on strength & I’ve about gave up on sleep, but everything else is SPOT ON! [yes, this means if you saw me this summer, I’ve lost weight & gotten in shape]  I didn’t realize my list had been so specific last year 😉  good thing I like lists because I kept pretty good records of everything I have done this year!

No fishing was done by me….. that will NEED to be remedied!

I’m pleased to say, Many of my other notes, I can cross off!

And my “KEEP IN TOUCH” will always be!  Needs to be better… I could use some help with this one… hint, hint!

I am so thankful for each of you.  for everyday that has been given me.  I appreciate your thoughts and your prayers.  And YES, you can TXT me and “Words with Friends” etc etc.  Holler if you need my info!

Love and cherish all ya’ll!!

Josh’s 16th Bday

[pics incl]  Today is Josh’s 16th birthday.  They literally just got back from their Make-A-Wish trip to New Zealand where they were able to cross off a couple of his bucket list items thanks to the joint efforts for Make-a-Wish USA & Make-A-Wish NZ!!!  She promises to post pictures when she recovers from jet-lag 😉  He has started up his chemo sessions again and has MRI scheduled next week so I suspect she will need time to sleep in here somewhere 😉  They have shown us some very interesting  pictures, cave diving with glow in the dark “not worms” and I’ll just let her tell that story!

I took a group photo but I clearly missed a few folks, SORRY!  And then Quelf came out and Courtney needed the toddler to “you must hold this in your left hand the rest of the game” or something 😉

It was a very nice visit and for the record we will be eating all future meals at their house because even when Debbie “makes up recipes” and does stuff at the last minute… it was FABULOUS!  Thanks for letting us share your birthday Josh!… oh, and by the way, it’s my sister, Andrea’s birthday too 😉

Dalton’s 18th Birthday at Chili’s for St. Jude’s

OF COURSE, we plan to be there around 5:30 or sooner if possible.

A NOTE from TAZ:  if you cannot attend and would like to donate click here: http://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR?px=3927848&fr_id=44326&pg=personal

A Letter from Roni:

Hi all.

As we delve into April, we face the month that Dalton would have turned 18, and then next month (on our 21st wedding anniversary), we face graduation head-on. Your support, well wishes, and Pay It Forward stories have been a huge blessing to us as we continue in our grief journey. Each day, we do our best to somehow Pay It Forward in many different ways. Giving back seems to help us more than anything.

For Dalton’s brithday, we are asking you to join us in our Pay It Forward Campaign…

Dalton LOVED Chili’s for his birthday; first because he knew he’d order sliders, but secondly because he LOVED Chili’s Molton Chocolate Cake☺.

That said, Chili’s has agreed to donate 15% to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memory of Dalton since St. Jude was our favorite charity to donate our money and time to.

Please click on the attachment or the link here and print out the attached flyer to bring in to Chili’s on the 25th (https://doitfordalton.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/dalton-give-back-event-at-chilis.pdf).

John and I plan to be there after 5pm, yet if daytime works better for you, please go then. Every little bit helps and we’re hoping to make lots of money for St. Jude on Dalton’s birthday!

Our belief in St. Jude stems from the many families we know who have had children with cancer and other debilitating diseases; some who have been lost, and thankfully, many who have been cured by the cutting-edge treatments at St. Jude. If we can cure these diseases in children, we’ll soon be able to cure them in adults too!

If, for any reason, you cannot attend, please feel free to make a donation in Dalton’s memory at http://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR?px=3927848&fr_id=44326&pg=personal. And, please continue to practice a random act of kindness each and every day.

Please feel free to share this invite with anyone and everyone!

With much love and appreciation.

Catnap Gone to the Birds

Peanut came in and asked me to hold him.  Yes, I know this because I “speak cat.”  I looked at him, thought about my morning and decided that a catnap might just be what my throbbing head/neck needs.  “Ok, but I’m fixing some hot tea first, and knowing you, I need a lid… I’ll be right there.”  Peanut knew exactly what I was talking about and went to wait near the chair, on the tile where I usually put my tea.  [see here for WHY I put my tea there]

We were perfectly arranged on the chair and I thouroughly scratched every inch of him as he flopped around to make sure I didn’t miss a spec.  He finally gave a very contented, purring sigh, and I decided that maybe if I don’t move my head and arm, I might just fall into that same catnap too.

As I am dozing off, I am listening to the birds outside chirping, I realized that it was parent birds teaching baby birds to fly.  All of a sudden… Sqwack! Sqeek! CHIRP!

THWACK!!!  against the glass!!!

Peanut and I both leapt up and bumped that mug of tea… so it’s good thing it had a lid … and was on the tile… in the corner!!!

Shortest…. catnap… ever!

Peanut asked me to raise the blinds so he could sit in the window and make that creepy squeeky noise he makes when birds are around….  I obliged.
