I Want To Lick Your Face

[pics incl] I’ve been known to give a “zerbert” now and then (not since brain clot) but Ashley licks. See here for more info: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2012/12/07/the-kiss-and-the-hug/

My cousin’s daughter (age 4), is a “licker” and they are trying to break that habit… that is now a lost cause!

We had her surprise Courtney with a face lick in the pool!

Meeting the Extended Cole Family

[pics incl] I’ll add more as I can, but Aunt Sis’ maiden name was Cole. She married an Eggermann (who passed away), and remarried an Edwards. I am of the Eggermann line.

I met Ruth’s younger sister Mary. She stood between my dad and I and regaled us with a fabulous story about Francis & Marcella (Eggermann) Bacon [YES… a bacon married an egg!] They are my paternal (dad’s) parents. She held my dad as in infant, when she was a teen.

My mom, ingeniously snapped a photo!

Memorial for Aunt “Sis” (Ruth Cole) Eggermann Edwards

Courtney, her good friend Emily, and I arrived safely in Nashville, Indiana around 10am on Saturday, May 17, 2014. The memorial is at 1:00pm. We’re all showered 🙂

I know we will be taking photos, telling stories, crying & laughing, and who knows what other crazy!

There is very poor service and I’ll be driving and visiting, so I will post as I can, and I will be more specific after we return home.

Heather’s Friend Miller

I’m saddened to inform you that Heather’s friend Miller passed away this week. Many of you have kept him in your prayers since the tragic car accident that took Jake’s life in February.

Indy Roadtrip 05/16/14

Courtney and I are planning to go to Aunt Sis’s Memorial in Indiana [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2014/04/16/memorial-for-aunt-sis-edwards-ruth-eggermann-05172014/ ]. If you recall, she does NOT have her license and I’m not comfortable with that arrangement. We found another crazy person to go with us, and Emily has her license 😉 Pending college finals and nothing going wrong, we hope to be there Saturday!

If any of ya’ll have a crazy notion to drive cross-country (or part-way) and back, just holler… the more, the merrier.

Wish us luck! See ya soon!

Nightwing On Their Backs

[pics incl] The fascination that Nightwing has for sitting atop Ashley’s back [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2014/02/11/nightwing-on-her-back/ ] has progressed into a full blown circus act. While he was perched on Ashley and nuzzling her hair, William decided to see if he would move to his back; sure enough, they switched places a few times and he just marched from one back to another!

Mother’s Day 2014

[pics incl] Some of the sweetest things I did with my kids when they were little, was hand/foot/entire body tracings. It’s no less cute when they are older! 🙂

Today, my thoughts linger on the loss of sweet Dalton and how difficult Mother’s Days will be for our dear friends. We all have hugs for you, whenever they are needed! [More Dalton: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2014/04/27/daltons-16th-birthday-memorial/]

Who Is Taller

Today is Wednesday. On Sunday, I was standing across the room from Courtney, when William walked up behind her. Apparently, I stopped talking and squinted to see who was taller. From a distance he appeared to be, but Jeff had them back-to-back and Courtney was still visibly taller (1/2+” or so). Remember their “discussion” about this? [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/11/15/arm-wrestling/ ]

Today, the three of us, were having a group discussion next to a mirror, when Courtney stopped talking, glared at the mirror and said something along the lines of “no way?”

They automatically “assumed the position.”

They look the same to me.

Courtney just kept on talking and William said “I bet she’s mad…”

“nope I accepted my fate long ago.”

There’s a scale here too: Courtney weighs more than William if she holds a ten-pound kitten.

The Time to Buy Life Insurance is Now

Our friend Roni wrote this article about the loss of their son Dalton. [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2014/04/27/daltons-16th-birthday-memorial/ ]

The Time to Buy Life Insurance is Now
by Roni Lambrecht

As most of you know, I lost my only child 18 weeks ago in an ATV accident over Christmas break.

Dalton was only 15 years old and our entire world revolved around him. The grief that goes along with losing a child is unimaginable and beyond explanation. It’s baffling what emotions can do to your brain and how they affect your every move and decision, if you can even make decisions. I have a hard time even figuring out how to move one foot in front of the other these days. That said, I am so very thankful for my brain working in 2012 when I finally purchased life insurance for my son and each of my sister’s children.

I never intended to actually use the life insurance for its purpose, as the inexpensive policies I purchased carried a guarantee that would help each of the kids later in life, where they could raise the death benefit up to $450k without ever having to re-qualify for the insurance. To me, that was a safety worth paying for, just in case any of them ended up with a debilitating disease that would not allow them to qualify for life insurance later in life.

Dalton’s accident happened in California, so we had to cover all of the standard expenses there, as well as covering them again here in Colorado, but then there was the added cost of transporting him home in the proper container at the proper temperature, paying the funeral home in California to work with the funeral home here, then paying for the casket here for the viewing (because the box we brought him home in was not for viewing). Then we had the blessing, celebration of life, programs, pictures, urns, cremation, food and drinks and snacks to feed everyone while they were here, travel expenses, etc. With all the expenses, this could have bankrupted us. As of today, we have incurred over $16,000, not including any of the time we’ve spent away from work, or medical expenses incurred at the accident scene.

Had I not spent the $60 a year for the life insurance policy I bought for Dalton, we never would have been able to give him the celebration his short, beautiful life deserved, nor could we have made our house payment, or paid any other bills from then until now. More importantly, though, we would not have had the brainpower to figure out how to make it all work. That, in and of itself, proves to me that life insurance is something that must be budgeted for every single month. In fact, I am in the process now of setting up life insurance that my husband and I will fund for several of the kids in our lives. It truly is that important.

So, please, if you have children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or friends with children, who do not have life insurance, there are so many other benefits more than just a death benefit. Please, look into it for a birthday or Christmas gift or just because. It’s worth it just for the guarantee that they’ll be covered when they grow up and have babies of their own.

My husband and I never dreamed this could happen to our son, but it did. Please think about it, and then DO something about it. Waiting until tomorrow could be too late.

Do What I Mean, Not What I Say

Today, has been a good day! It’s been a while, so I thought I would be openly express gratitude! [If your unfamiliar with my blood clot: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2014/04/11/brain-freeze/ ]

My speech still gives me fits! My brain knows what to say, but my mouth doesn’t mind my brain. [ Remember the clock: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2014/04/11/brain-freeze/ ]. Today, instead of brain pain (Can I coin that phrase?), I had word jumble. I prefer word jumble, however, if “YOU” are not aware, we may not be having the same conversation because I do NOT even realize that I have said something incorrectly. At least when typing, spell check harasses me.

So…

“Do what I MEAN, not what I say!”

😛

Hopefully, you are all flashing back to when your parents said that to you!

I can still only do ONE thing, don’t distract me if you asked me to go do something 😉 [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2014/03/01/explaining-my-brain/ ]

The Media Fast

This weekend, William is participating in a “media fast” for church. Instead of giving up food, he has given up all electronics for 48 hours. Just so you know, the rest of us, are NOT on a media fast.

We COULD… … … but we aren’t… 🙂

Thumper

[pics incl] Heather had something banging on her basement bedroom window ( her window is underground with an egress gate). The wind has been crazy this week (see news for semi being flipped). We had a wind burst and it blew the front door open and startled me! Heather came upstairs moments later saying, when the wind blew, something kept clanging on the glass, over and over again. She opened her window and the hose from the water cooler (evaporator cooler on the roof) was dangling down through her grate and swung right by her face!

About an hour later, she comes all the way upstairs, to my room, with a small box. “Do you wanna bunny picture?”

“WHAT?!”

“Something was banging on my window and this time when I opened it I found this…”

“I should put the cat down…”

I have named Heather’s noise: Thumper. [there’s a leaf over his ears on top of his head.]
