The Band-aid and the DUI
[pics incl] How do those have anything to do each other??? I scraped my baby toe and ripped the nail… my toe is bleeding. If you look back, I’m taking anti-coagulants and now my toe won’t stop bleeding (it’s nothing urgent, just annoying). I texted the girls because William had gone to bed and Jeff was not home. Courtney replied something along the lines, “the DUI cop gave me some free band-aids.” I know I missed some “stuff” when I was in the hospital but I really couldn’t figure out HOW I MISSED THIS?!? I answered, “OK, but I need the long version too.” Turns out, he was just sitting at a table, talking to them at college. WHEW!
I Did NOT Burn the House Down – 2
[pics incl] Well, I made the mistake of telling my sister, Stacy, that I was going to be “home alone unsupervised all day” and she told me not to burn the house down. [There is a very long ongoing “don’t burn the house down” scenario… she started it, not me! actually, my mom started it, because of Stacy!] She had good reason for saying that though, see last week’s blog: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/09/25/not-cooking/
Soooo, today, when I spilled homemade vanilla syrup on the cooktop burner… I had to open all the windows myself… because I was home alone. 🙂 I cleaned it all up and I would have “gotten away with it” … except Ashley sniffed me out! She said dinner smelled TOO SWEET! (it was stir-fry lasagna, not something sweet). http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/recipes/meat/beef/stir-fry-wok-lasagna/

A gratuitous “I didn’t burn everything” photo 🙂

23rd Anniversary
Officially been married more than half our lives! All the recent rain and flooding has impacted some of our anniversary ideas. To be honest, I’m just thankful to “be here” as our lives could be very different right now. Feel free to reminisce previous anniversaries (I know there are wedding pics in previous posts). [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2012/09/30/off-grid-for-48-hours/ ]
[NOTE: William got up and brought us breakfast in bed… not too early either! Scrambled eggs & toast… and a cup of creamer with a tiny bit of coffee, for Jeff. 😉 He earns HUGE brownie points! He’s actually a pro: http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2010/10/08/breakfast-in-bed/ ]

NOT Cooking
If you’ve been on the blog list for a while, I’m sure you know I’m not usually allowed in the kitchen 🙂 [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/08/27/banana-bread-breakfast/ ]
There was a cooking show on and at the end, an ad for 13 years in one cookbook. I sarcastically stated “maybe that’s what I need, 13 years of recipes!” Without skipping a beat, Courtney responded “NO, MOM, that is a BAD idea! They should just put that Mythbuster’s warning before each episode “Warning, do not try this at home… remember… we are professionals!!!””
New Hematocrit Levels
This time they are about double what they were before [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/07/07/updates-070713/ ]
Today, I saw the hematologist and my hemacrit was 43! That is soooo much better than 20.4! He rattled off lots of other numbers too, for kidney, iron, platelets, etc, etc. Basically, every single number was smack dab in the middle of where it should be! Sooo much better!
Doc was kinda funny; he looked at the chart and said “this says I last saw you in May???” [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/05/22/officially-a-coumadin-failure/ ] You could see his confusion dissipate, when I told him he saw me in July at “the other hospital.” [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/07/03/let-the-pranking-begin/ ] THAT jogged his memory because it was another special request trip and NO WHERE near where he lives.
You’d think being on an anticoagulant would mean if you prick me, I’d gush like a geyser… BUT NOOOO! It just means I never STOP bleeding. It took a couple of attempts to successfully stick me and then it took about 10 min to get 3 drops!!! I’m not sure it even qualifies as a full vial?!?!
I go back in a few months to re-test for the Lupus Anticoagulant Antibody (IT’S NOT LUPUS! that’s what means “thick blood” and it’s partly why I am a Coumadin failure [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/05/22/officially-a-coumadin-failure/ ] and I also have tiny veins and other “stuff”… I think he said low PK?
We verified again today that Lupus Anticoagulant is NOT hereditary so they cannot test the kids for it. He did say that it can spontaneously go away, especially if they cannot determine why it happened in the first place, but there is nothing I can do to facilitate that happening.

A Girl’s Best Friend
[pics incl] Ok, besides diamonds! And, besides the actual BEST Friend, what’s a girl’s best friend? Teddy bear!
Heather has had “Strawberry” since her birth; it was a gift when she was born. Courtney has had “Teddy” since she was six (I think); pretty sure Santa brought him. Needless to say, they’ve both been around awhile.
They needed baths.
When the kids were little, their toys took regular baths, but as the bears have gotten older, their parents have been neglectful. 🙂
After some serious panic attacks, the parents were convinced that I could handle the task while they were at class.
Today, they shine!
Bees-4, Humans-0
Remember the ground burrowing yellow-jackets?
They have stung 4 people so far!
Jeff put the foam out successfully, but wouldn’t ya know, it rained overnight!
THE WASPS ARE LAUGHING!!!
Attempt #4 will commence when a dry night is forecast…. … … to be continued…
Ashley’s Homecoming 2013
[pics incl] Ashley has homecoming tonight and as she was getting ready, Heather offered to take her to dinner. Ashley stated that she was NOT going out all dressed up while Heather is in jeans! Heather said “FINE! I’ll go put on a formal! Then will you go?” Jeff, egging them on, offered to pay for anyone in a formal. 😉 I was standing here saying they should just get Courtney to dress up too. So they did!
Hair and pictures were rushed because going out for dinner was not calculated into the original evening plans!
A record 17 minutes later, all 3 girls are in formals and off to visit Jaime. 😉 (I have no idea if any of them have been to see him, but the last time I was there was Ashley’s & Heather’s birthday! http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/01/19/birthday-dinner-with-jaime/ ) Hopefully, he will be there, we usually call ahead.
AND, he was there! His section was outside so pictures were difficult to take.
Things That Go Poof
I REALLY wish I had pics… OR VIDEO! Bear with me, it really should be a visual 😉
We regularly vacuum out the dryer vents/ducts and had done so around Labor Day weekend. However, it’s suddenly been taking forever for clothes to dry so we performed some tests with and without the hose connected to the house duct. It was obvious there was a problem so Jeff cleaned it all out with the shop-vac blower but still no air flow to the outside vent. Instead of shop-vac, he switched to the more powerful leaf blower; still no air flow outside.
A trip to Home Depot for “thangs” (duct cleaning things), and that didn’t help either! After consulting with neighbors and Google, he left a message for a duct cleaning company.
Not wanting to admit defeat, he decided to attempt one last thing… he hooked the leaf blower up on vacuum and taped it to the duct. Yes, he’s IN the house, in the laundry room, crouched down behind the washer/dryer that are pulled away from the duct.
When he turned it on it was instantly apparent that nothing was happening.. for 3.1 seconds… then…
POOF!!!
Jeff and the entire laundry room are covered in about 3″ of fluff! Walls, cabinets, INSIDE the cabinets, all over the containers… ALL OVER Jeff and the ceiling!!!
This is one way to clean every square inch of a room 😉
