I Spackled a Thing

[pics incl] See if you can follow this train 😉  The house is full of smoke again… it’s from the oven and NO, it’s not on fire, AGAIN, nor am I cooking AGAIN… well, not exactly.  I’m “self-cleaning” the oven with the cast iron in it ;-P

Which brings me to why the house if all smokey.  Our old oven never acted this bad but this one is finicky i guess and it just blows smoke for any reason.  It’s a nice day, so all the windows are open and I’m upstairs in the kids bathroom with the door shut till the worst of the smoke is over, doesn’t take long… and I see they have a robe hook off the wall… the old me could do this…

Took me 10x longer than it should’ve but I managed to find the the spackle after I stood there forever trying to remember WHAT THAT WORD WAS!!! grrrr  that’s soooo stupid, i can say it today but not remember it tomorrow! but i digress

i found the spackle 🙂 and a putty knife 🙂 but i couldn’t get it open. grrr.  after about killing myself in the attempt 😉

I spackled these wholes here 🙂 and i’m pretty happy about it!


It’s a far cry from removing those stupid pantry doors and re-installing drywall so that even contractors cannot notice… but I’ll take it!

Sadie Visits 11/13/16

[pics incl]  My brain is NOT cooperating to drive, so Andrew offered to come up and help Jeff and William winterize the evaporator cooler.  Sadie & I had a long conversation about how she keeps favoring William and Aunt Mousie needs to see pictures of her with Jeff.  She seems perfectly content with this conversation.


However, she spotted William first and I could barely contain this little greased piglet so he had to come and get her and acknowledge her existence, even though she was desperately fighting taking a nap (she just had too much to tell me… and can now SQUEAL while she is tell it)!!! [NOTE: watch William’s face & mannerisms… and Sadie’s]


Jeff coaxed her from William but she quickly turned and looked at Shelbi as if to say “do I have to smile?”  She LIKES football and emphatically cheered for the Broncos for 90 whole seconds until she realized William wasn’t holding her.  Oh my gosh, her lower lip… big crocodile tears… Shelbi & I both TRIED to capture it but we were both laughing too hard… the little faker!  Don’t mind William’s gloating, we took him down a notch a bit later ;-P keep reading



Will got her settled down and fed but while he was patting her back, Sadie was checking out Jeff.


She was still fighting this nap and I remembered we have some “toddler” sheets & blankets in a zipper bag.  I pulled out a blue one, which prompted a “Hey, that’s mine…” [NOTE: in his defense the tone was more like “that USED to be mine” but it’s MY story, i’m gonna tell it however “I” want!”]

“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize you were still using this, let me wash it  and freshen it up for you…” and before I could finish my harassment (and I was on a roll), his ears turned bright pink 😉  He graciously let her slobber all over it, put her right to sleep and then CHEERED something LOUDLY but get her back to sleep 😉

After the game, they introduced Andrew to the “2-story from the front, 3-story from the back” roof.  



As they were leaving, Sadie tried to sneak away w/ William’s blankie… better that one than Courtney’s teddy bear!  Just wait till she can open doors and discovers THAT room 🙂

Thyroid Appointment 11/11/16

I had a standard blood draw today.  This was a very interesting appointment because it started with me handing out a list of “please keep all these doctors informed of this and all future tests” and I had handwritten the info from the newest neurologist from Monday [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2016/11/07/another-neuro-appointment-110716/ ] That prompted a conversation of “why did that happen and how did that go?”

I have pictures of all the notes and referrals, etc that “new neuro” wrote.  She had a several nice things to say and let’s just say, she STRENUOUSLY insisted that I no longer go back to the previous neuro. 

Today, William went with me to my appointment and it turns out that he had not attended any appointments at this office, even though I’ve been seeing this doctor for … dunno 13-14 years.  I guess he’s always been in school.  He’s HEARD about this office.  I have my own personal “leech” ;-P meant with the deepest respect!  [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/08/27/my-personal-phlebotomist/ ]  She didn’t disappoint, my truly “one stick wonder!”  Not to put words in William’s mouth but I think he was impressed when he said something along the lines of “No, I haven’t been HERE, but I have been to OTHER places where I have been on my phone, KILLED my battery, recharged my battery, killed it again, recharged it AGAIN… and probably AGAIN!”  Yah, I think I’ll call her boss… AGAIN 😉

As we were leaving I kidded the doc about “can I get a doctor’s note to stop seeing my neuro?”  Laughing “You just tell everyone that ‘I SAID!’ ” 😉 so there… I just changed neurologists.

I’ll keep ya posted on the bloodwork results.

My brain isn’t really cooperating to drive so i was lettin William drive.  We came home on the freeway cuz … well i forgot that this road abprpblty merges … but look at us, we are alive to blog about it 🙂

Sheri and Jody are Homeless

They have this kinda txt thing for safety that sends out a txt saying where they are & they are safe.  This is the last one I saw from Jeff near the keys.

Finishing Front Steps, pt 2

As I was going out to snap “after” photos I about walked on the wet concrete… so we decided the we better up up tape.

Another Neuro Appointment 11/07/16

When I say “another” neuro appt, I mean w/ ANOTHER neuro doctor.

My other nuero doc [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2016/11/02/neuro-appt-110216/ ] has given us some reservations since day one and it’s taken us months to get this appointment (so YES, we decided several months ago to seek another opinion)  Mainly mine doesn’t return the phone calls of my other doctors, yet, demands they do so?  she’s starting to irritate others.

New doc had some suggestions:

1) have neuropsychological testing to have extensive memory testing and evaluation of issues after brain injury [we didn’t even know “this was a thing?!”]

2) referral to vascular neuralogist to see if special testi is needed to determine what is going on with left arm and neck  [we didn’t even know “this was a thing?!” either AND NOTE… neither have several of the docs I’ve talked to since and they are ALL very interested in hearing more about this]

Seems that the current nurro office couldn’t be bothered to send the records like I requested.

As you can imagine Jeff and I were a bit surprised because as far as I no, neither of us even knew these other type docs existed & why the heck weren’t these tests done IN THE BEGINNING?!?

She spent 30-45 min just “getting to know me.”  I had photos on my phone but that’s not the same as medical records.  And I’m super slow at filling out forms, so at least I had everything filled out on my phone.

She thought keeping meds the same at this point would be best until she could talk to my hematologist.  

She also said she doesn’t believe in prescribing narcotics (i.e. oxy).  I’m ok with this IF there is a pain management strategy.  She liked hearing this from me and said she leaves pain management to pain specialists. (hence neuro vascular)

AND,

WHY did they stop physical therapy? 

3) let’s do physical therapy and discuss “dry needling” and massage.  She knows a group that will do this while I am taking Xarelto.

…. so was this a second opinion or did I just switch nruro?

Dinner Out 11/05/16

[pics incl]  We were on our way to dinner and I turned around and laughed and decided even though I was missing some kids, I had the backseat full of kids and I “needed this picture.”


Drew had to leave before dinner and he parked the car over a grate… on the passenger side.  That’s not a probl if you are the driver, however, when “I” was about to be the passenger, this was a problem.  [I fell through a grate once]  if you throw in the fact that I fell in a ditch under the truck once, I couldn’t stop laughing… and HENCE, Heather’s photo OP. [oh the truck story is VERY FUNNY! http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2007/07/04/july-4th-weekend-2007/]


Courtney had to leave dinner early so we ordered hers togo and THEN, I remembered to take a picture… sigh.


I also forgot to tell “the girls” that the handle in the bathroom was broken until we get a txt from Heather that she was locked in.  I guess she didn’t have a good samaritan like I did ;-P oops…!

Debbie and Mario Here 11/04/16

[pics incl] It’s been a while since Mario was last here because we had the floor torn up (so this time we tore up the front stairs ;-P )  He had a nice surprise and got to see Heather too (he doesn’t understand Skype and how they aren’t just in their rooms when they hang up).  There were HUGE HUGS for everyone!  





Drew and Jeff had Debbie cut their hair (which I think was a first?!?).  and we decided that Heather and Will have the same haircut.




Josh popped in (and the missing front stairs confused him too 😉 ) and Mario insisted he join our game of GoFish… and what a very intersting way of playing!

Fixing the Front Stairs

[pics incl]  If you’ve ever been through our front door, then you have had the pleasure of practically falling off the front stairs.  No more!  Those are gone and replaced with a porch and steps along the walkway.  We have always had caissons in front of the house, when the stairs were removed they kept the caissons and added more (farther out and deeper) with the intent to cover the porch.


I took “before” photos prior to the crew arriving and then realized a little too late that I would NOT be able to stay while they were basically jackhammering and shaking the whole house.


I went to a nearby park and hung out with this snake…


Jeff, Heather & Courtney brought lunch up there.  Since Courtney was “working from home,” she went back and got her laptop so that she could hang out at the park with me.  Basically, “the loud” had ended anything else I had planned.  Heather, we to get Will & Drew.

We all met back at the house to play with the bobcat in the yard ;-P Ha! ok not really… they parked “that toy” by the camper.

Today is NOT a Reading Day

[pics incl]  I’m writing this mostly for me but also to explain to you what I mean when I say I wouldn’t pass a third grade reading test.  


It all start when I said the jalapeño tastes fake & wanted to see ingerdints.

But I canNOT read these.  I can SEE them fine, glasses won’t help me.  Jeff says this word is potatoes (spellcheck) but at first I saw paintball… yes, go ahead, laugh…

but now I see pistachios…. no I get they don’t LOOK the same typed but that is still what my brain says this word irks.  Maybe it’s the paper letters?  dunno

it sounds “funny” but….

today, is NOT a reading day.

The rain today isn’t helping me remember everything doc said but basically she want ME to tinker with the dosages of the meds I am on during “bad head days” (like today)

Kinda be scientific about it: increase one, see if that helps, if not, next time try one of the others, etc.

Josh, William and Sadie Went Trick-or-Treating

[pics incl] OK, NOT exactly.  Shelbi and Sadie came up here to show off her cute mermaid  & fox costumes.



AND the big “play on words” & “I don’t wanna jinx this” stuff from earlier these past couple weeks .. is… the Hetheringon’s bought a house!  They closed TODAY on the house next door to Rod & Lisa! That’s the house next door to, across the street from us.  Josh and Will went around to several houses to introduce him before exhaustion from the day caught up with him… or maybe that was, exhaustion caught up with his parents whom caught up with him 🙂


Debbie’s gonna txt her mom “Look what comes with the house!”

This little stinker…. STILL likes Will best?!?  WHY?!  I fed her?  Debbie had a cool New Zealand accent she clearly found amusing, Ashley had green hair & lips… but NOOOOO….


Three months old and she’s rolling over?!?  Hello? what happened to some prep-time to get baby gates?
