Chinese New Year 2017

[pics incl] This is my story so I’m gonna tell it my way.  I’m in possession of this photo w/ no other info.  The way I see it is that Kevin took his favorite daughter [http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2016/06/26/ashleys-common-law-father/], Ashley out for food and “had” to take Courtney because she overhead him invite Ashley ;-P 


As usual, our girls are spoiled rotten by our dear friends Kevin and Shirley Leung!  This is Chinese New Year’s celebrate 


Ashley txt me LOTS of pix of food but since I don’t know what most of it is, I can only assure you that she clearly operate!

Attempting to Keep in Touch

I’m attempting to KEEP in touch.  Therefore, some of ya’ll have been recipient of phone calls 🙂 [then my phone went on strike]  If you don’t think I have your info, email me (replying to this works).  You can txt or call & leave a message if you have my info but ya have to tell me who ya are 😉  (I won’t answer if I’m “doing my ONE THING” or at PT or I’m hanging out w/ Josh… & I don’t recognize the number)

 I think I have settled this stupid “labor dispute” w/ my phone but don’t trust txt/vm… IF it’s important you better follow up w/ email or find someone else in this house! [especially if it requires “remembering”]

I’m just kinda going down my list of family & Friends & neighbors, etc… wanna be on the list?

Heather and Drew

Many of you have asked about the FB posts you’ve been seeing from Heather and Drew. 

This is Drews FB post from 01/20/17:  “For those of you who care heather and i are both going through a very difficult time as we choose to part ways please be respectful and supportive of us in this process its no easy and many of you are friends with both of us so please be supportive of each of us in this trying time”

At this time, I can only say that they need some time to figure out how to separate their lives in a peaceful manner.  I don’t know anything more and to be honest, it’s none of my business.  I don’t need to know what happened and I will continue to love Drew and treat him with respect.  I hope all of you do the same.

I believe the plan will be for Heather to move back here with us, but that will not happen immediately.  So, yes, sometime in the near future, you will probably start seeing sudden blog posts that include Heather.

[NOTE:  to be honest, I hadn’t seen the FB posts, I wasn’t getting on FB, and the only reason I did is because Josh asked me, NOT because of all this going on]

My phone is dead 01/22/17

My phone is currently dead.  Very suspiciasly after I “tech slurred” my iPhone and said I kinda which I’d gotten an android….. so, don’t bother leaving a message or txt’ing me, cuz I won’t get it.  You’ll have to EMAIL me… or come RING THE DOORBELL 😉 

[NOTE UPDATE:  as of TUESDAY 01/24/17:  I did a restore to Saturday BEFORE I insulted my phone 😉 but it’s still giving me issues so I still can’t check phone messages to receive txts… guess I’ll have to factory restore it…. sigh…. To Be Contiued

also, Courtney is having issues with hers, she can currently use hers but it dies pretty quickly.  at least she can check messages and txts once she charges…. factory restore in her future too…]

PT 01/19/17

PT this morning was pretty good.  We worked on getting my neck to manuever more to the left and/or up because I haven’t had complete capablity to do that, it either hurts or causes “pinching” that hurts… or kinda makes me dizzy which i assume makes me faint so I don’t due that.  I was able to work thru the pain part and move that around a bit, that doesn’t bother me to have pain, if i know it’s not causing bad things to happen.  But the
“pinching part”… yeah, that is a fainting thing… can’t do that one, and I can’t completely look up to the left either…. so “we” aren’t doing those.  Imagine a complote head roll…. and THAT… I cannot do.  But I learned what I can do, and that IS helpful.

Let’s Talk About Browser Security

OK, PAY attention a moment.  I may have lost my marbles but I’m still an IT geek at heart and some nasty Gmail browser phishing is going around.  It’s tricky enough to stump some pro IT guys so I’m prompted to try and explain it to ya’ll

it’s basically this:


You see an https:// BUT WAIT

it’s not, it’s a data URI and it takes you to a very authentic looking Google login page and you have just been hacked.  very quickly, they snag an old email, w/ an old image and email your entire contact list w/ a new subject line.  download all your old emails so that if you do manage to change your own pwd, doesn’t matter, they have your data…. probably access to “other” accounts as well.

So, IF, you have a Gmail acct, look for that LOCK SYMBOL and the GREEN SYMBOL.  if you don’t see those, stop what you are doing.  think about what launched that Gmail.

initiate 2-factor authentication… that’s where, it calls or texts your phone when you login.

NeuroPsych Testing 01/18/17

I think I have a brain… and it hurts.  I haven’t used that muscle in a while ;-P  This was an ALL DAY event!!

Remember that NEW neuro that referred me to all sorts of new “thangs?” http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2016/11/07/another-neuro-appointment-110716/

This was supposed to happen the end of Match and Jeff was gonna go, he woulda only been allowed to stay the first 60-90 min.  PT has been pestering them to get me in for speech/cognitive therapy.  Jeff left town yesterday and the girls started college again today, so of course, they called me… for today.

She’d say “I’m gonna tell you a story.  Now can you repeat it back?”  That’d be “no, we’ll, kinda, not really? dunno.”  I’m gonna say a list of words.  Can I remember that list of words? No.  Well, I could always remember the first and last.  Numbers… as long as there were three or less and NOT BACKWARDS!  

Can you READ this list of words (think junior high spelling test). Maybe about a third of them… [I should KNOW these, aced the SAT…]

and then I burst into tears… sorry

I think…  However, in my own purely professional opinion of course, I THINK, I did OK on the “draw this crazy architecture nightmare church of geometric shapes!!”  and while I was slow… I also think I did pretty good on the “Great Aunt Ruthie’s geometric block puzzles” but then she said “that was pretty good, were you cheating?” She was kidding of course, but I had to say yes.and then I burst into tears again because how could she know… so I had to quickly explain…. and now I’m in a mental hospital… thanks for that ya’ll!!!

OK, just kidding.  For you “non-Bacon’s”  My Grandmother’s sister Ruthie Eggermann, had this block/puzzle set made of wood.  Each 6 side block was carved with geometric shapes and it was an infinite game she played with ALL OF US.  She was MY FATHER’S aunt and HE talked of this game.  Having to assemble these blocks today, brought up LOTS of memories… and YES… I was cheating, because, I’d been training for THIS one, since I was a baby!

I do know MOST of my zoo animals bit frustratingly…. grrr… apparently not ALL?!? And… I now HATE those stupid flashcard books of random objects!  I just started guessing at what I was supposed to have already seen, statistically… I have to get some right…  She said “Best guess?”

If a lady reports a robbery w/  her kids at a police station “do they feel sorry for her?”  “Best guess?”  Gee… let me think, I don’t remember the story, but from this leading question… gee?

So, I dunno if she was in a hurry for me to finish or of that was a REAL and valid protocol 😉

But overall, I sucked at this stuff and was so super slow I couldn’t finish, so I have to go back another time… TBD.

Dinner with Hetherington’s 01/15/17

[pics oncl]  We all have tomorrow off and between our two houses we have enough food to feed 8 people. ;-P  

And then we had a healthy 8 player game of “Screw Your Neighbor” [thanks Marc Doig for teaching the neighborhood that one!]

Courtney pointed out that she and Josh are wearing matching shirts but refuses to go stand over by Josh 😉  She’s right… they are matching shirts.

Debbie told us at dinner that Josh’s MRI showed the chemo hasn’t slowed the tumor growth (she will post pix on his team-josh site).  they have introduced him to Hospice works, to begin working with him because he has memory loss occurring, so that he will know the workers.  He has qualified for a children’s study (I mentioned before http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2017/01/10/walking-at-the-park-w-josh-and-tania-011017/ )  to start in couple of weeks.  this study could possibly halt? the growth?  I’ll keep you posted as they tell me more info.

SHE Who Must Not Be Named

OMGosh!!!  There was an article on the TV re: “Alexa trying to order another Alexa” & Jeff said that out loud… and “OUR alexa” said… something in the other room but we (Jeff, Will & I) were visiting w/ Josh and talking and ignored her cuz… well… we weren’t talking to her.

Courtney joined the group and then, the boys went to Josh’s house.

An hour later, an alarm went off and… well Jeff & I started laughing.  how do Jeff & I explain what happened without starting an infinite loop?… well…

Courtney: “She Who Shall NOT Be Named ”

The only REAL options are: Echo, Alexa, Amazon

I’ve TRIED:    “V.I.K.I.” [the intelligent female voice computer in iRobot that takes over]   and “Computer” [because that’s what they say on Star Trek]

but “She Who Shall NOT Be Named” has that special magical Harry Potter twist that just makes us LAUGH and we can’t stop saying it… if you have an Echo…. wave your wand… and…

The Next Generation of Pinochle Players

[pics incl]  Everyone in “the Bacon family” grew up playing pinochle; learned to play before learning to walk.  My best friend Neil comes from a similar upbringing and we forced Jeff to sit down and learn pinochle in college [probably because we were sick of hearing “hey, let’s play 42” (dominoes)].  We created a monster.

Our kids are old enough now that over the past few years, they have taken an interest in learning.  Brain clot kinda slowed us all down but…

When my parents visit, we have always played and now can include or swap out with interested kids.  Scotty & Jacque also play… so ditto!  They were here Friday night and the cards and cheat sheet/ rules are still on the table.

Josh appeared today and everyone was still moving slow (not me, I was up) so we sat & chatted a while.  Since it’s Robotics season, I knew Will had some homework but said he could figure out how to manage that around hanging out w/ Josh.

William said to Josh, in his ‘super-fast-not-pausing-for-answers-or-breaths-voice’  “Do you wanna learn pinochle? You should learn pinochle.  I’m just gonna teach you pinochle, that way we can all play pinochle.”

Josh just looked at us, shrugged, and replied in the same  ‘super-fast-not-pausing-for-answers-or-breaths-voice’  “OK” 🙂

They sat at the table and I laughed because William was talking in a voice and tone that sound eerily like “college age Jeff trying to avoid chores”  Jeff agrees.


First hand we played, practice hand, was face up, so we all could help and explain cards.  His hand was unusually AMAZING?!  [For you pinochle players, he had:  club 4 A, 2-10,K, 2J, heart 1A, spades 2A, 10, K, 2Q, J, diamond A, 2J   I was NOT his partner & had 4Q club] 

As you can imagine, the three of us were very interested in seeing how this was gonna play out.  yes, granted, we were playing heads up, but the argument here was, Al Bacon has the hand… go.  Josh took 40 of 50.  He said “beginner’s luck” and I may never play with him again!

Scotty and Jacque 01/14/17

[pics incl]  Courtney was around just long enough to hug everyone before leaving again and I forced her to halt long enough for a photo!

I had decided much earlier, that I would go cover for her at the car wash this morning (if needed), so I went to bed.  However, good ‘ole dad, stayed up.  Courtney never sleeps, so 2am & getting up to goto work by 8am… no biggy.  Jeff… had an IV coffee drip ;-P 

I was up [with intent to go work if needed] and Scotty & Jacque are on TX time… Jeff hadn’t discovered the coffee yet.  SOOOO, bluffing into being a good daughter -n-law I offered to fix breakfast… that was my first mistake.  The toast was FINE, but let me just adamantly declare that NOT ONCE have I ever stated that I can cook breakfast sausage.  I said BACON… http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2016/03/08/national-pancake-day/ Read that again, my maiden name is BACON… I can cook BACON!  


So, the rest of this story is gonna read: Scotty and Jacque love crispy breakfast sausage patties and I made their breakfast to order and they loved it. Jeff asked me NOT to add breakfast sausage to “the list of 7 things I can cook” http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2012/03/10/how-not-to-cook-7-things/   and William… who will eat just about anything gave me “a look” and I threw his away without trying it. I was obligated to try a bite. I CAN cook BACON!

As they were leaving Jacque started “yelling” at her jacket.  I speak “jacket yelling” and tried to help but it was just one of those things where, it was the right size, but she was a bit taller and it was just… ever so frustrating… but even more so if you have on long sleeves underneath… like NOW, because we aren’t in TX anymore, dear jacket, and grrrr!  Yah, THAT “jacket yelling” language.  It’s a nice reversible jacket, fits me fabulously!


However, I told her, I had the opposite problem and I went on a hunt for my “slightly too long in the sleeves” reversible jacket.  Voila!  I think I got the better end of this deal but in either case, we both have much better fitting, reversible jackets!

Before they left, I required a generations photo, and Scotty huffed and I huffed back 😉  Jacque broke the “huffing standoff” with a quip:  “I saw a post that applies ‘I finally realized what’s wrong with all my photos… … … my face!’ ”

Happy 20th Birthday Ashley

I cannot believe our baby girl is TWENTY!  Congrats on becoming a college junior early.  What a beautiful, remarkable, young lady you have become yet you have held onto all the spunk of our beloved Tigger!  I cannot wait to see what you have in store for our future 😉

PS.  You are right, I’d have to sync the two websites (old format w/ WordPress blog setup) but 100% of your entire life is on this and THIS is YOUR babybook!
