Hanging Christmas Lights 2015 Version

[pics incl] Please take a moment to flash back in time to a day that Jeff dangled Courtney from the roof: [ http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2011/11/29/hanging-christmas-lights/ ] The 2015 version does NOT include Jeff, rather William and Courtney decided to hang the lights?!? I’d like to say that no adults were present when this crazy idea was hatched, except that Claudia, Courtney and Ashley are all over eighteen! You’d think by now our neighbors would be trained to take pictures of my kids dangling from the eaves but alas…. they just watched! This is a photo of what Jeff and I arrived home to see:

La Fogata 11/20/15

[pics incl] We dragged the Hetherington’s (and extended family) to La Fogata… in a CRAZY blizzard! And then discovered Jaime is on vacation. [More about La Fogata & Jaime]

We had a blast and agreed we need to do that more often. Hope we didn’t wear out Josh too much, as he was obviously tired from his chemo and had little appetite. Though, he did convince Will to go back with them.

The weather is clearly affecting me but today was not as bad as last week… or maybe I’m becoming a bit tolerant??? or resting most of the day helped? or all the above! I still have to wear earplugs because it’s too loud. I’d say this past week or so, after that first snow, that my head has been “just right on the verge of REALLY hurting” but if I do everything slower, rest and don’t bend down, I seem to be able to kinda sorta function… kinda 😉

Thanks Ashley, for the photo but you must not have heard Debbie say to use panoramic 😉 Kudos to the photo-bomb guy behind us… we had to cheer him for that one!

Broken Hearts

Our hearts are broken, for our dear friends and neighbors, over the loss of their son Cody. There are so many questions left unanswered when someone chooses to end their own life. We all wish he understood how much everyone loves him and how his death will affect everyone.

From the family of Cody Wilderman…

We lost a great and tender soul yesterday.

Our son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, Cody Wilderman, passed away on November 16th, 2015. Cody took his own life for reasons we are still trying to understand, as no note was left. We already miss him greatly.

Feel free to post your memories, thoughts, stories, condolences, etc. on his Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/cody.wilderman.1 or email them to us at MemoriesOfCody@gmail.com.

Cody will be cremated and services will be determined at a later date.

We ask that any gifts be withheld until further notice.

Toad Holes

[pics incl] Toad holes… like donut holes, from toads. Do you know what toads are? NOT the frogs, the toasted food. When Heather was little, we discovered “toads,” and when William was little, Blues Clues reminded us. You cut a hole from the center of bread, we use the “O” from our ABC cookie cutters 😉 but a biscuit cutter or just an inverted juice cup work too. You crack an egg into the hole, and fry your egg and toast together.

20151116-201826-73106015.jpg

Well….. I do not like fried eggs. I do not like them “Sam I Am!” Jeff quickly whipped “mine” up into French toast.

AND, decided to put the circular bread cuts into that batter and make baby French toast.

I said, “Look, toad holes.”

[this is for you Heather!]

Broncos vs. Chiefs 11/15/15

[pics incl] Jeff was invited to attend the Broncos game today… and tailgate beforehand. The vendors are trying to convince us that he is “not spoiled rotten.” I’ll just let the photos speak for themselves. ;-P

Yes, William, The Spider IS Scary

[pics incl]  Last week, William had a “scary spider experience” that ended with him flinging off his jacket across the room and then searching for pie.  The spider was believed to have escaped unharmed.

Today, I moved a throw blanket (we keep them around to break the chill) and a spider scurried up the couch seat.  I was startled but more intrigued by the spiders coloring so I snapped a photo.  I’m with William… this spider looks pretty scary.

New Hematologist 11/10/15

A few weeks ago (mid-October 2015), my Xarelto prescription needed to be refilled, so the pharmacy did it automatically.  I received some weird automated phone calls and emails that all contradicted themselves, but by the time I actually go around to calling to figure out what it all meant, I was told it was handled and my prescription was ready.  A couple weeks later, I received a letter from my hematologist dated June 2015 but postmarked October 2015, stating that he had moved to Utah and referred me to another office.  Upon closer inspection of my refilled prescription, he had only authorized that refill and ZERO others!?  UGH…

I contacted the new office and spoke at length with the coordinator, whom made comments like “we have a specialist but I’m not sure he’s accepting new patients……. ….. unless they have super complicated bloodwork…. …. … hang on a minute, I think YOU would fall in that category… … I’ll have to talk to him… ….”  By the end of the day, she had spoken with him and he agreed to see me over his lunch hour, in a couple of weeks (which happened to be today 11/10/15).  [NOTE:  apparently I was not the only patient abruptly notified and transferred to this office].

He started reading the file from the hematologist but clearly someone had pulled some of my “other medical history” and he realized it was a lot of interesting detailed reading 😉  He asked a LOT of questions and spoke to us (Jeff attended with me) at length (maybe about 80 min) and finally decided that there is no point in ATTEMPTING to draw blood “until he knows what he’s looking for.”  He’s not convinced that I’m a coumadin failure (or maybe I’m no longer…)   [Why Xarelto and not Coumadin:  http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2013/05/22/officially-a-coumadin-failure/] and he wants to review all my records and talk with others, etc.

I have another appointment in a month, meanwhile, he has refilled my Xarelto.

The weather is taking an abrupt turn today from clear, blue, warm weather to NASTY blizzard overnight later tonight.  I am clearly feeling the affects of the sudden pressure changes and this afternoon, I am struggling with random dizziness and pain.  The last time I really felt this way was during that tropical storm (Bill?) over the summer:  http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2015/06/16/tornado-near-morales-061615/ and/or whenever I attempt to go up into the mountains.  Clearly pressure is an issue.  I cannot bend down at all and Iv’e stumbled a few times, so William has decided that I am to SIT STILL and do noghting else without his supervision! 😉

Goodbye, Camper

[pics incl] Well… we sold our camper. We all have mixed emotions about this because it’s been a part of the family for 11+ years! But, we’ve clearly outgrown it. Sigh. Jeff spent some time with the new owners showing them some of the basics about its setup/take down, etc. They are looking forward to putting it to good use.

NOW… we are looking for something…. else… but haven’t decided what… yet! 😉 Whatever it is, it will NOT have dual bunk beds nor a master bed you have to climb into!! (TIP: NEVER take your kids with you to buy a camper…. because you will end up with dual bunk beds!)

Caterpillars in the Bed

[pics incl] Jeff says “Caterpillars in the Bed” should be the title of a scary children’s book. But it’s the story of my life at the moment. I was sitting on the edge of the bed, and noticed something on my sock. Where did it come from? How long has it been there?!?

I’ll be sitting on the leather couch all night….

20151104-183002-66602217.jpg

[NOTE UPDATE:  William had a traumatizing “spider” experience yesterday… so I made a point of taking the caterpillar to him… and asked him to fling it outside.  There was depate anoungst the others about “how” he should dispose of the caterpillar and “toilet flushing” won.  HOWEVER, he dumped it in and the toilet did NOT flush… and he left.  I told him he canNOT leave it there… or someone will have a very bad day!]

Can Ladybugs turn into caterpillars??? ;-P  http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2015/10/28/ladybugs/

A Fitbit Prank

For some reason, my Fitbit decided to reset (or just set) all my “goals and alerts” data to random information.  It’s been “cheering” and setting off the vibration alarm at random times, for the past couple of days, but I didn’t really “get it” and just thought I had set a reminder that I couldn’t remember what I had set it for! 😉

In the middle of the night, I had gotten up after midnight and it’s apparently, less that 30 steps to my bathroom and back.  But while sleeping, I must’ve rolled over and jostled it just enough to make it reach 30.  At 1:58am, I was abruptly awakened and realized that my “steps” alert had been reset to 30 steps.

This is strike 2 on this fitbit:  http://blog.scottsontherocks.com/blog/2015/08/05/fyi-moths-do-not-give-butterfly-kisses/

Joshua’s Plane Ride

Today, William’s good friend Josh, received a Cessna ride from James, a 17yo pilot (and brain tumor survivor). The story is fabulous: http://www.team-josh.com/index.php/2015/11/02/november-2/

This incredible story is being told by KDVR (Ch 31) tonight! [http://kdvr.com/2015/11/02/boys-dream-soars-after-cancer-diagnosis/]

[NOTE UPDATE:  Since this newscast aired, others have called to help Joshua with his bucket list, including Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) and Colorado State Patrol (CSP).  He’s gone out on a SWAT training with DCSO and is slated to learn from the CSP Bomb squad.  We are so excited for Joshua to get these opportunities and to share them on their website for all to enjoy!]

Do any of you local CO peeps know anyone with milking cows?! 🙂
